    I have a big problem right now, and I am asking for contributions.....let me tell you my story.

    I have a very small rural independent midwifery practice. When you pay malpractice insurance in PA, you must also pay the state. This is the MCARE fund. This fund is supposed to pick up any overage in costs after your malpractice is tapped out. For the past few years, there was an MCARE abatement, that meant you didn't have to pay the extra fee....so, the legislation was up for renewal in PA so that I wouldn't have to pay, but wouldn't you know it, it passed the house, but the senate refused to consider it (it was attached to another healthcare bill to cover all PA residents) and they went home on holiday. Now, of course, I have been told that I must come up with 2,889 dollars by November 27. Today is Dec. 11, and I have called everyone I know, and some I don't to try to continue to provide women's healthcare in Brookville.

    So, I have been asking everyone for donations to pay this thing, since I have a busy practice for a small town, but I give a lot of free care (omg what's that!!!) to people who cannot afford it and teens so that they don't get pregnant.

    Oh, yeah, and I have been in practice 9 years, have never ever had any claims (or complaints), and have had my own practice for 5 years.....still hanging on here............
