Stephanopoulos says there's zero chance of Hillary taking this to the convention. Oh yeah? Just watch. I'd say there's at least a 50-50 chance she's going to appeal this coming weekend's decision on what to do with Florida and Michigan. And if she does appeal it, that moves this whole ball game until the end of June, when the appeals committee meets. And Hillary will say, "oh come on, what's a few more weeks," as the goal post slowly moves again. It's good that the SuperDs are showing signs of life, but until now they've been saying things like "we'll be coming out for Obama between now and the convention." No, what we need is for the SuperDelegates to make up their minds now - not before the convention, which means they can hold off until August.

...is a bitch.
I haven't been officially diagnosed (that will have to wait until I get back stateside, in August) but the signs are all there: obsessive thoughts about horrific scenes I witnessed in Iraq, anxiety at the mere mention of anything having to do with that war, extreme guilt at having willingly participated in such a colossally wicked venture, sleepless nights, mood swings, constant fidgeting, and the strong proclivity to self-medicate by any means necessary. I have good days and bad days, but they've been mostly bad, and certainly worse than they were when I blogged about them before.
The worst for me is the guilt and the anger. Guilt for what I was a part of and anger that such a war could happen, or that people could still believe there is anything remotely positive about our military presence in Mesopotamia. As Thoreau put it so ably at Unqualified Offerings:
It outrages me more than I can describe that there are still apologists for this. It outrages me more than I can describe that there are people who can look at this and say "Yep, we sure made the right choice there!" And it outrages me more than I can describe that the people who look at this and see no evil are actually taken seriously. They are invited to speak and write in serious venues. They are warmly thanked for offering their amoral apologies. They are allowed to remain in power rather than impeached, convicted, removed, and stripped of privilege. They are able to walk down the street undisturbed when they should be cursed and pelted with trash. They should be sprawled on a sidewalk next the McPherson Square Metro Station, hoping to cadge enough quarters to enjoy the rare treat of laundering the vomit out of the only shirt they own, praying all the while that decent people do not recognize them beneath the matted beard and tangled hair.

Add to myYahoo!THE FIFTH COLUMNIST by P.M. Carpenter

No doubt there is a motivating element of psychological warfare in play when "GOP strategists mull [a] McCain 'blowout.'" But any sober encounter with basic arithmetic and the potential of chronic Democratic troubles soon makes one realize: They could be right; their "mulling" is not all hype.
It began as the unthinkable, then moved to the merely laughable, and within a c Bookmark/Search this post with:

Add to myYahoo!Saturday, we reported on the blockbuster scoop from the Huffington Post that Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham were already breaking John McCain's policy against campaign advisers working for 527s or any "other independent entity" that engages publicly for or against a presidential candidate. Both of the Senators have a leadership role in a group called "Vets for Freedom" -- that group's PAC began running a negative ad against Obama last week. Here's McCain's policy:
According to the policy: "No person with a McCain Campaign title or position may participate in a 527 or other independent entity that makes public communications that support or oppose any presidential candidate."Turns out, McCain himself is quite familiar with "Vets for Freedom." In fact, just last month, John McCain proclaimed that the group is a "wonderful organization." No wonder he likes them, "Vets for Freedom" is already doing McCain's dirty work. Because the McCain and his crew have nothing positive going for them, they're already in the slime.

Add to myYahoo!Unredeemable as his tenure may seem, George W. Bush could leave office on a high note with, to borrow his cowboy terminology, Osama bin Laden's scalp.
After 9/11, Bush said of the al Qaeda mastermind, "I want justice. And there's an old poster out West that says, 'Wanted: Dead or Alive.'"
Now, according to an Arabic TV network, "in the past few days US security and military officials had a top-level summit at a military base in the Qatari capital, Doha, to plan an operation to hunt for the al-Qaeda leader.
"General David Petraeus, the US commander in Iraq and the US ambassador to Islamabad, Anne Petersen, were reported to have attended the summit...
"Reports say that the CIA has located the Saudi terrorist in so-called 'rooftop of the world.' the area of Pakistan that borders Afghanistan to the west, in particular the chain of mountains of Nurestan and China to the north."
We have heard all this before and from more reliable sources, but what could salvage Bush's legacy more--and bolster McCain's chances to succeed him--than finally "getting" bin Laden?
Earlier this month, after the President's Middle East tour, the al Qaeda leader was shifting his emphasis away from Iraq and Saudi Arabia by proclaiming, "We will continue, God permitting, the fight against the Israelis and their allies...and will not give up a single inch of Palestine as long as there is one true Muslim on earth."
In the past seven years, our Commander-in-Chief has failed to silence that taunting voice. Will we be seeing a last-ditch effort to do that now?
