President Obama responded quite impressively to questions on what the arrest of Henry Louis Gates says about race relations. Here is a link to the video.

Add to myYahoo!Oh, darn. I was really looking forward to getting on my horse and going cross-country with my trusty six-shooter. Oh well!
Personally, I think the idea was a great one. In a time of constant right-wing hate directed against an African-American president, why wouldn't you want those patriots to take their guns across state lines? Why, a teabagging party, anti-abortion rally or a revolution might break out:

An amendment that would have allowed gun owners to carry their weapons across state lines fell just short of passage Wednesday in a vote that revealed deep divisions among the Senate's Democrats.
Supporters included all but two Republicans and 20 Democrats, but the vote of 58 to 39 in favor fell two short of the 60 needed to defeat a filibuster.
Despite its defeat, the amendment, sponsored by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), demonstrated the continuing power of the National Rifle Association and the gun rights issue in Congress. Rather than a setback, those backing the effort consider the vote a sign of strength for the Second Amendment and are planning more gun-related amendments to other legislation throughout the year. Afterward, Thune said he hopes the Senate will "reconsider this important issue" later this year.
It split not only Democrats, many of whom got to the Senate by supporting gun rights, but also the caucus's leadership: Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.), campaigning for reelection in 2010, voted yes, while his top lieutenants, Sens. Richard J. Durbin (Ill.) and Charles E. Schumer (N.Y.), led the push by liberal Democrats against the measure.
Offered as an amendment to the annual defense authorization bill, the legislation would have allowed people to carry concealed firearms across state lines, provided they "have a valid permit or if, under their state of residence" they "are entitled to do so." It was considered one of the most far-reaching federal efforts ever proposed to expand gun-permitting laws.

Add to myYahoo!Wouldn't it be swell if the people who always play the Nazi card actually cared about oppressive government eating away at the rights of its citizens.

Andy Worthington is a good friend of The Osterley Times.
Here, he debates the closing of Guantanamo Bay with Nile Gardiner from the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom. The organisation's name is all you need to hear to know that he is going to spout insane right wing talking points. He does not disappoint. Indeed, he's even crazier than the Thatcher title leads you to believe.
Andy does a very good job of cutting through his crap. And it is crap. I mean, Gardiner actually states that allegations that prisoners at Guantanamo Bay had been mistreated are "complete nonsense", going as far as to call Guantanamo "an impeccably run prison facility". I mean what planet would you have to live on to come out with that kind of nonsense on live TV? I love Cori Crider's reaction to this pile of tripe. She simply takes a laughing fit.

Its a really busy life, being the Chief Information Officer for the City of Pasadena. Sometimes the events are so stacked on top of each other, its all a poor PIO can do to get from one important event to another.
Take the busy days in the life of our PIO.
Daytime brings Annie to the posh environs of John Van de Kamp's estate for the farewell party for City Clerk Jane Rodriguez.
Nighttime, Annie heads over to celebrate Aaron Proctor's 26th birthday at the Aztec Hotel in Monrovia. (note the same outfit)
Apparently, to Annie, there is not much difference between a City event, and an Aaron Proctor birthday party. Both were equally important for her to attend. The fact that AP was a few months away from going berserk, the fact that he sadistically attacked her OWN colleagues on his hate-blog (some of whom she had just been with at the Van de Kamps!!),
meant nothing to Ann Erdman. He was her favorite troll, no less, and needed her validation. She recorded both events on her City of Pasadena blog.

Gov. Mark Sanford has decided yet again to vacate the state he governs, leaving its people without the top person they elected to lead. Well, I say we do something about it.
I encourage each and every one fo you to donate to the South Carolina Democratic Party. Donate five dollars ($5) each day Sanford is on vacation up until November 2010.
Starting this week, you have a chance to donate $5 a day to the SCDP to help elect Democratic candidates to statewide offices. You have a chance to help fund progressive candidates who want this state seen as a leader, not as a mockery.
And make it know when you donate that you do want progressive leadership. They're listening.
Donate $5 and help the SCDP get South Carolina out of the mud.
