Add to myYahoo! You've probably heard or read that President Obama's proposed health care reform compromise is either a brilliant or Frankensteinian combination of the already-passed Senate and House health care reform bills, plus some embellishments of his own.
Wishing for a simple, straightforward comparison of the three proposals? Granted!
Igor Volsky at Think Progress has a table comparing the three plans.

Add to myYahoo!A freelance security consultant in his 30s wrote the part of the program that used a previously unknown security hole in the Internet Explorer Web browser to break into computers and insert the spyware, a researcher working for the U.S. government told the Financial Times. Chinese officials had special access to the work of the author, who posted pieces of the program to a hacking forum and described it as something he was "working on."

Add to myYahoo!Steve King To Conservatives: 'Implode' IRS Offices
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) told a crowd at CPAC on Saturday that he could "empathize" with the suicide bomber who last week attacked an IRS office in Austin, and encouraged his listeners to "implode" other IRS offices, according to a witness.
We already know King is nuts, but the question I have is why does the Republican Party tolerate these kinds of fringe extremists? And no, the Democratic Party does not have anyone similar to King; Dennis Kucinich might be for single payer health care, but he's not for bombing health insurance companies.
I guess when Republicans talk about having a big tent, they are only talking about a tent that goes as far to the right as the political horizon extends. Vote for health care? We're gonna' primary you. Vote for the stimulus? We're gonna' primary you. Say you "empathize" with suicide attacks against the U.S. government? No problem, join the party.
King's comments were delivered at a CPAC panel session and TPM's report is based on a witness from Media Matters. As of Monday afternoon, King's office had not responded to inquiries from TPM about his comments.

Add to myYahoo!Nearly every major policy address by the administration's top officials -- from the president to the vice president and secretary of state -- has stressed that the forthcoming Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) will "reduce the role of nuclear weapons" in our security. Same formulation every time. That's the good news. Because as the speeches point out, delegitimizing nuclear weapons as instruments of war or politics is vital underpinning to prevent their spread to more countries.
As I've written before on this blog, one of the best ways to do this is to declare that n-weapons' sole purpose is to deter their use by others. The bad news is the cloud of doubts regarding whether the NPR will do this. Last week on HuffPo, Joe Cirincione reported that leading arms control experts recently wrote to President Obama to convey their concerns. There really aren't any great technical complexities here. In fact, that's the problem -- that history's most horrific weapons have been surrounded with a lot of tortured syllogistic doctrine. Or in my own synopsis of an excellent Jeffrey Lewis article: there's minimum deterrence, and then there's a lot of scary rationalization for keeping a much more extensive arsenal than you need to deter a nuclear attack.

Add to myYahoo!I watched this the other night and was really appalled by Gingrich?s flame throwing during his speech at CPAC, especially this portion of it. Our friend Driftglass caught this over at Media Matters (whose title I borrowed) and reminded us of how this is nothing new for the Newtser and he?s been teaching the Republican Party how to use this sort of inflammatory rhetoric for some time now, even though he pretends here this is the first time he?s finally been moved to warn Americans about the dangers of the ?radical? agenda of the Democrats now that the scary black man has been elected and Reid and Pelosi want to destroy the country and enact their evil socialist, Marxist agenda.
Check out the entire post here and warning, not safe for work due to Driftie cursing the way I would like to here as well at times but restrain from doing so since we do try to keep Crooks and Liars safe for work for the most part. I?ll share one key point he made here. Here's the list of Gingrich?s recommended words to use about the Democrats from back in 1996. All that's old is always new again with these hypocrites.

Add to myYahoo!A new study finds African-American women may be especially vulnerable to being evicted from their homes. It shows that women in black neighborhoods are twice as likely as male tenants to be kicked out of their homes.
