A Texas pastor who has repeatedly called Mitt Romney's religion a cult is now endorsing the former Massachusetts governor because President Barack Obama "opposes Biblical principles."
Dallas pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress first said in 2007 that Romney was not qualified to be president because ?Mormonism is a cult.?
"Mitt Romney is a Mormon, and don't let anybody tell you otherwise," Jeffress told his congregation. "Even though he talks about Jesus as his Lord and savior, he is not a Christian. Mormonism is not Christianity. Mormonism is a cult."
"It's a little hypocritical for the last eight years to be talking about how important it is for us to elect a Christian president and then turn around and endorse a non-Christian," he added. "Christian conservatives are going to have to decide whether having a Christian president is really important or not."
But in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, the pastor reversed course after Romney became the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
"I haven't changed my tune," Jeffress insisted. "In fact, I never said Christians should not vote for Mitt Romney. When I talked about his theology, I was answering a question about theology. And I still maintain there are vast differences in theology between Mormons and Christians, but we do share many of the same values, like the sanctity of life and religious freedom."
Fox News host Clayton Morris noted that Jeffress was quoted in October as saying, "Evangelical Christians should not vote for Mitt Romney because he?s a Mormon, therefore not a real Christian."
"Critics would argue that President Obama is a real Christian," Morris continued. "By that metric then, why wouldn't you support Barack Obama?"
"Well, again, I never said that quote that you attributed to me," Jeffress argued. "There was a spurious article in one magazine that just completely fabricated that quote. I've never said don't vote for Mitt Romney because he's not a Christian. But in my book that you were so kind to reference, I said, given the choice between a Christian like Barack Obama who embraces non-Biblical principles like abortion and a Mormon like Mitt Romney who embraces Bible principles, there's every reason to support Mitt Romney in this election. I've been consistent in that."
Jeffress added that he expected evangelicals across the nation to put Romney in the White House because Obama "opposes Biblical principles."
"When we have seen what the president has done especially in the last six months in launching this war against religious liberty -- I'm not just talking about the [Health and Human Services contraception coverage mandate], but I'm also talking about last October when he tried to rescind the church exemption in hiring practices -- I think as more evangelicals are aware of what this president is doing, I think they will turn out and vote," he said.
"Not for partisan reasons, but because he opposes Biblical principles."

Add to myYahoo!Everybody loves their sleek, shiny iPhones; they stand, sit, sleep in lines for up to 48 hours to be in position to grab an iteration of the newest cellphone at their favorite Apple outlet. The last model iPhone was released a mere 16 months after it's predecessor, and it wasn't even that much of an upgrade - in fact, it's not even technically a 4G phone (it's a marketing gimmick, a little "white

Add to myYahoo!Britain is, of course, a famously progressive country. We still have a Parliamentary system that allows members of the Aristocracy directly to influence legislation because a distant ancestor was prepared to do something for a King that his wife could not contemplate. The system has been "modernised" by allowing the political parties to nominate so-called "Life Peers". The nominees are given the title "Lord" or "Lady" but are not able to pass the title on to their children. That may all sound weird, but not half as weird as what is to come.
One of the Labour Party's working peers is Lord Nazir Ahmed. He has close connections with Pakistan and has recently been visiting. According to a report in the Express Tribune he has been upset by the US offering a bounty on Hafiz Saeed.
Saeed is Head of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). LeT is alleged to have been behind the Mumbai massacre, and to have links with both Al-Qaeda and the ISI (the troubled Pakistani intelligence service). Whether you think there is anything in those allegations likely depends on the sources you prefer.
Here's more from Lord Nazir:
Lord Nazir said that the bounty [the US] placed on Saeed was an insult to all Muslims and by doing so President Obama has challenged the dignity of the Muslim Ummah. The Labour Party, perhaps understandably, has proven less than delighted at the thought that one of its most prominent members is putting a price on US Presidential heads. The BBC is now reporting that Lord Nazir has been suspended.
"If the US can announce a reward of $10 million for the captor of Hafiz Saeed, I can announce a bounty of 10 million pounds on President Obama and his predecessor George Bush,? Lord Nazir said, adding that he would arrange the bounty at any cost even if he was left with the option of selling all his personal assets, including his house."
Asked about the reported comments, he said: ... "I did not offer a bounty. I said that there have been war crimes committed in Iraq and Afghanistan and those people who have got strong allegations against them - George W Bush and Tony Blair have been involved in illegal wars and should be brought to justice."Perhaps.

The race may be essentially over and his campaign suspended, but former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum appears to be in no hurry to back presumed nominee Mitt Romney. Santorum held a conference call with supporters tonight to thank them for their work and discuss his future plans.
Supporters could submit questions for the former Pennsylvania senator, and one asked if Santorum might “un-suspend” his campaign if he got enough votes in upcoming primaries. “Is there a reason why [supporters] shouldn’t vote for you still?” One asked, specifically referring to next week’s Pennsylvania primary?
Santorum didn’t say no. “Well, I would just say this. This best thing they could do is stay tuned. We really are serious about making sure that the issues that we brought up during this campaign are continued going forward.” “As far as who you vote for for…it’s really up to you as to who you support in the upcoming elections,” he said.
As for his own activities, Santorum vowed to be a “voice” in the presidential campaign, but it’s unclear for whom he’ll be speaking. “You’ll see me active and engaged,” he said, “but as far a specific presidential candidate, I haven’t had a chance yet to talk to Newt [Gingrich] or to Governor [Mitt] Romney, but we’ll be talking to both of them, and we’re going to go out and do what we think is best for our country and winning this election and making sure that we have a conservative…who will follow through with that conservative message after the election.”
Mitt Romney’s name was hardly mentioned during the entire call.
He also hinted at perhaps starting an independent grassroots organizing group, like fellow ex-candidate Herman Cain’s. “We will have a place to organize and to rally to make a difference. And we’re working on something right now about how to best make that happen,” he said. “So I would just encourage people to stay tuned,” he added.

Not looking for half-measures. (Jeff Topping/Reuters)Overheard by reporters standing outside a fundraiser:
Mr. Romney was frank in both his policy prescriptions and his obstacles as he addressed donors. He said he expected Mr. Obama to use the immigration issue against him as both sides of the aisle pursue Hispanic voters, a key demographic group in 2012. Mr. Romney said he and other Republicans will have to make the case that they are the party of "opportunity."Romney has said he thinks Arizona's hated SB 1070 is a "model for the nation." He has stood with Republicans as they've stood in the way of the sensible DREAM Act?why punish innocent and high-achieving children for sins not their own?He said the GOP will have to propose its own initiatives to win support from Hispanic voters, such as a Republican version of the Dream Act. As offered by Democrats, the act offers a path to permanent residency for those illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. as minors and serve in the military or earn a college degree.
"We're going to be able to get Hispanic voters," Mr. Romney said. "We're going to overcome the issue of immigration."
According to current polling, Romney could face an 80-20 loss with Latinos to Obama. And if he does, there is no realistic path to GOP victory. None.
So his response will apparently be to go all-in with the GOP's Hail Mary on immigration?a version of the DREAM Act that would keep those kids from being deported without giving them any hope of actual citizenship, perpetual second-class status with a guarantee those youngsters will never be sully the GOP's America with the title "citizens" (or cast votes). Does Romney really believe that he can win back Latinos by telling undocumented Latino kids that there's no way they can ever be Americans, despite being American in every way except for the paperwork?
That would be insulting too little, and far far too late to have an impact. Republicans have made their beds with Latinos. Actually, it's more like they've burned beds with Latinos on them. The anger is palpable, and won't be easily satiated.
