Add to myYahoo!More negative campaigning on Joe?s record. From the truthaboutjoe.com
LIEBERMAN HAS ONE OF THE WORST VOTING ATTENDANCE RECORDS IN THE LAST 4 CONGRESSES:
In the 106th Congress, Lieberman missed the 3rd most votes of any U.S. Senator. In the 108th Congress, Lieberman again missed the third most votes of any senator. And in the current 109th Congress, Lieberman has skipped the 7th most votes of any senator. [Source: Washington Post?s Senate vote counter]
LIEBERMAN HAS SKIPPED ONE OUT OF EVERY SIX VOTES IN HIS CURRENT TERM:
In just his current 6-year term, Lieberman has skipped 321 votes, or almost 17 percent of all votes. Put another way, Lieberman has skipped more than one out of every 6 votes in the last 6 years. In just the last three and a half years, that absenteeism has gone up further, as Lieberman is now skipping an average of one out of every four votes. [Source: Washington Post?s Senate vote counter]
LIEBERMAN PUTTING POLITICAL FUNDRAISING OVER CRITICAL VOTES:
The Hartford Courant reported in 2003 that ?AP noted that Lieberman was en route to a Silicon Valley fundraiser when the Senate voted to pay for the war in Iraq ? a war Lieberman fervently supports. And he was lunching with Democrats in Manchester, N.H., when the Senate voted to confirm Tom Ridge as head of Homeland Security.? [Source: Hartford Courant, 5/4/03]

Add to myYahoo!Only in the bylaws of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party would one find talking about an incumbents record = negative attacks.
This charge coming from the campaign that has attacked:
Ned?s wife
Ned?s entrepreneurial success
Anonymously accused this campaign of anti-semitism
Falsely accused us/supporter of hacking their site on election day
Put out race-baiting fliers
Sent out people dressed as Uncle Sam, a banana, and golfers (country club)
Sent paid thugs to disrupt campaign events in Meriden
Equated support for Ned w/ emboldening al-Qaeda
Repeating their charge without asking even the easy questions is lazy. It?s just plain lazy.
We talk about Joe?s record. And just because it?s terrible, doesn?t mean we are running a negative campaign. Their charges are pure projection, and you can expect much more on this topic.

Since, unlike Jeralyn, I am not a blog leader ("Pres. Bill Clinton sat down with leaders of the lefty blogging community in his Harlem offices 9/12 and TalkLeft 's Jeralyn Merritt noted those in attendance . . . [not me] . . .") I don't get to ask President Bill Clinton questions. And to add insult to injury, Jeralyn has already thrown me overboard, offering my guest blogging gig to Clinton (yes I am sulking over here). All that said, I asked myself what I would have liked to discuss with Clinton. I thought of this issue most of all - 'does Clinton think his Third Way/New Democrat approach, that worked so well for him (did it work for the Dem Party?) in the 90s (of course since he is the best politician of his generation it is not clear that using of other approaches would not have worked for him) is the right political approach in today's hyperpartisan age of Bush Republicanism?'.
Anyone who has read my posts here knows by now I tremendously admire the work of the late Richard Hofstadter (an admiration shared by The Mahablog) and believe that our current Democrat political rock star - the new Bill Clinton - Barack Obama (a tremendously talented politician in his own right) has much to learn from him, as well as FDR. I think blurring the differences between the parties is bad politics, and that we Democrats must highlight the differences between Democrat amd Republican. I wonder what Clinton thinks and on the flip are some of the thoughts I would present for his consideration.

Via TPM Muckraker, the tentacles of the Jack Abramoff investigation continue to grow. A blog at the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Ohio Republican Congressman Bob Ney has reached a plea agreement with the Justice Department and will plead guilty to a criminal charge, possibly Friday.
Ney's woes stem from dealings with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff that became public in 2004. A Texas Indian tribe told the Senate Indian Affairs committee that Ney agreed to help them re-open a closed casino in exchange for political donations and a trip to Scotland to play golf.
Ney said he was misled by Abramoff and his associates. He denied wrongdoing even after Abramoff and other lobbyists for casino-operating Indian tribes pleaded guilty to criminal charges that stemmed from efforts to ply Ney with gifts including sports tickets, meals and trips, that were in exchange for official acts. Four lobbyists, including Ney's former chief-of-staff, have pleaded guilty to criminal charges in the case.
What do you think, a misdemeanor?

Add to myYahoo!Bob Ney, one of the leading Republicans in Congress, will plead guilty tomorrow to charges stemming from his relationship with Jack Abramoff:
A guilty plea would make Mr. Ney, a six-term congressman, the first member of Congress to admit to criminal charges in the Abramoff investigation, which has focused on the actions of several current and former Republican lawmakers who had been close to the former lobbyist.Yep, the Mayor of Capitol Hill is going to jail. Maybe he can share a cell with Duke Cunningham -- or Tom DeLay.
People with detailed knowledge of the investigation said Mr. Ney had entered an in-patient rehabilitation facility in recent days for treatment of alcoholism, making it uncertain whether he would appear at a court hearing to announce the plea. Lawyers and others would speak only anonymously because of concern they would anger prosecutors.
They said the agreement with the Justice Department ? and the exact criminal charges, which are expected to include conspiracy and false statement ? would be disclosed in Washington as soon as Friday and would probably require Mr. Ney to serve at least some time in prison.
