Add to myYahoo! We're with you on this Sen. Feinstein. In fact, it seems painfully obvious to us.
From Erica Werner's AP report:
Sen. Dianne Feinstein said Wednesday she believes the ouster of San Diego U.S. Attorney Carol Lam was connected to Lam's prosecution of former Republican congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham, even though the Bush administration has denied it.OK, Wilkes and Foggo are not members of congress but they were sure playing footsie with Lewis and Doolittle. To borrow from Schumer, Duke Cunninghan can't be allowed to be the Scooter Libby or lone fall guy for this expanding CIA corruption scandal."In my heart of hearts I do, no matter what they say," Feinstein, D-Calif., a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said in an interview with The Associated Press.
"The fact is there are additional investigations that have come from that. The fact is that the day before she left office she filed two additional indictments," Feinstein said, referring to charges Lam filed last month against an ex-CIA official and a defense contractor tied to Cunningham.
"Now they weren't of members of Congress," Feinstein added. "But whether this has had a chilling effect over that investigation I don't know. But I'm concerned about it."

Add to myYahoo! There's some noise suggesting that George and Alberto don't love each other so much anymore, and even Senator Box Turtle isn't happy.

Add to myYahoo! From the GREAT STATE OF MAINE...
George Carlin on Politician-speak:
Politicians don't decide things, they determine them. Or they make judgments. That's more serious: "When the hearings conclude, I will make a judgment. Or I may simply give you my assessment. I don’t know yet, I haven't determined that.
They don’t tell, they advise; they don’t answer, they respond; they don’t read, they review; they don’t form opinions, they determine positions; and they don’t give advice, they make recommendations: "I advised the president that I will not make a judgment until he has given me his assessment. Thus far, he hasn't responded. Once he responds to my initiative, I will review his response, determine my position, and make my recommendation." [...]
Of course, no self-respecting politician would ever admit to working in government; they prefer to think of themselves as serving the nation. This is one of the more grotesque distortions to come out of Washington. They say, I'm serving the nation, and they characterize their work as public service. To help visualize this service they provide, you may wish to picture the activities that take place on a stud farm.

Add to myYahoo!I hope you remember DWT's old friend Tom Chelston, a singer, songwriter and anti-war activist. Last October I had recommended everyone listen to his songs "BushWhacked" and "Veteran". They sound just as powerful, just as poignant, and just as relevent today as they did then.
A few days ago Tom got to question Republican Presidential candidate/Congressman Ron Paul on CSpan. He politely asked him if he would support impeaching George Bush, the way he had supported impeaching Bill Clinton. And Paul answered him just as politely. He's open to it. He'd like to see Congress investigate. So would I. Watch the video:

Add to myYahoo! It's just becomes more clear with each scandal that the Bush Administration is going to be remembered for its ineptitude in every facet of its functioning.
Even if Gonzales is forced to resign because USAgate brings impeachable matters too close to Bush himself, we are still left with the question of who will make sure the corruption cases against Brent Wilkes and Kyle "Dusty" Foggo will be prosecuted with any vigilance? It would most certainly serve the people in Carol Lam's Federal District and in this entire nation if both Jerry Lewis and John Doolittle are brought to justice for their involvement with Wilkes while serving on the House Appropriations Committee.

Add to myYahoo! Here's what just happened on the Senate floor, as described by a friend who knows such things:
There are 3 relevant votes on the Dems' binding Iraq legislation [the one mandating that we begin withdrawing combat troops as recommeneded by the Baker-Hamilty Commission] on the Senate floor today.
#1: Just passed - cloture motion to proceed to debate. Needed 60 votes. This is the vote R's blocked on previous non-binding measures (i.e. 'they won't even allow a debate'). This time, it passed.
#2: Cloture motion to end debate. Also needs 60. If they block this, also considered a filibuster.
#3: Vote on final passage. Needs 50. The Republicans can block getting to this if enough of them vote against #2 above.
