Add to myYahoo!Twelve conservative House Republicans have written a letter to President Bush backing unconditional direct talks with Iran, and warning that the United States should ?not allow a disagreement over pre-conditions to scuttle negotiations before they have the chance to begin.? The Democrats' plan would increase the minimum wage to $7.25 an hour from $5.15, grant authority to the secretary of Health and Human Services to negotiate lower prescription-drug prices with pharmaceutical companies for those in Medicare's drug program and cut student-loan interest rates -- rising to 6.8% in July -- by half.
The agenda also calls for enacting recommendations of the 9/11 Commission, formed after the 2001 terror attacks, to boost national security and funding for it, and for eliminating about $18 billion in tax breaks and subsidies for oil companies. Pelosi said savings would go to develop alternative fuels.
The official plan is being unveiled today (or maybe already has).

Add to myYahoo! In Somalia, we are losing badly. Strange thing that we're not seeing too many photos of the celebrations there. So what's the Bush excuse this time? I know, why not blame Clinton? How about flag burning? Gay marriage? What else do they have in their box of excuses for this failure?
There are also tales of al-Qa'ida moving in the shadows inside Somalia's capital, a city now in ruins, and a potent symbol of a failure of American foreign policy.
