The president has a bunch of people -- "enemy combatants," he likes to call them -- at Guantanamo, and he doesn't know what to do about them (other than keeping the press away so prisoners can't benefit from "publicity stunts" like, um, suicide). He told us today that he'd "like to close Guantanamo" because reports of torture and suicide just give people an "excuse" to criticize the U.S.
We don't need an excuse to criticize your administration, Mr. President. You and your helpers provide fresh cause for alarm every week. Banning the press won't shield you or your administration from warranted criticism. Guantanamo has severely damaged the credibility of the United States, and our elected representatives need to hear us object to misdeeds that tarnish our country's reputation.
As much as he'd like to, the president can't close Guantanamo, he says, because he "needs a plan for trying terror suspects if the U.S. Supreme Court rejects his military tribunals." Is the president worried that judicial activists on the Supreme Court might disagree with his assertion that "enemy combatants" have no right to judicial review of their indefinite detentions? He should worry.
You want a plan, Mr. President? You insist the detainees aren't prisoners of war, so the plan is simple: charge them with crimes and give them a criminal trial, or let them go.

Add to myYahoo! This is ridiculous. Lieberman won't rule out bolting the Democratic party, and the Democrats in Washington are talking about possibly ditching the Democratic candidate in the Connecticut Senate primary and instead support an independent AGAINST the Democrat?
Sure, if the Democrat were David Duke you might not support him. But Ned Lamont? This is ridiculous.
Lieberman should be shunned for his disloyalty, not rewarded.

Add to myYahoo!Malkin's distortions about Hillary and the troops
Michelle is at it again. She says that leftwingers booed the troops as Hillary is giving a speech at the Take Back America function.
Michelle: "First, Hillary! says we should support our troops and the leftwingers in the audience boo her."
Go watch the video she links to. It's only twenty three seconds long. Do you hear any boos? Sounds like "Bring them home" to me. Why didn't she allow the video to continue?
"What Malkin cuts off is that people were shouting BRING THEM HOME! They were not booing the troops. They were booing Hillary for not supporting the troops. I sat in that hall and know good and well no one in that crowd booed the troops. In fact, as I recall, during other speeches (like John Kerrys, to the same audience) the same audience applauded expressions of support for the troops."
Politics TV has Hillary's full speech here. The part Malkin edits starts around the 24:35 mark
Does it look like the way Malkin portrays it? Michelle is obviously trying to be the new Coulter and is doing a fine impersonation of her. People like them use the soldiers every chance they get. Aren't the troops being hurt enough? Are conservatives really happy with the way Malkin operates? After Coulter's smearing of the 9/11 widows I don't think they want another stain on their reputations.
I know she's trying to get into the video business like so many now, so I'll give her a tip. When you print an allegation as serious as this one-you'll have to be more forthcoming with the amount of video you produce and actually listen and watch it honestly.

Update: The people at Hot Air say Malkin had nothing to do with the video or the post. That's strange because Malkin says:
**update: We've captured and posted the video of Hillary getting booed as she asks progressives to support the troops. Guess they won't be helping out the Camp Pendleton 8.
I'm not sure what I missed. When she says. "We've captured" then that seals the deal.

Politics TV has a lot of video coverage from the YearlyKos conference - they actually taped a lot of the panel discussions. I'd highly recommend you buzz through some of it, it really was a very good conference.
You can find their listings of all their coverage here.
Okay, not all their coverage, there's more here, including Clinton, Feingold, Obama, and more.
You can watch me talk on the media panel here.

Add to myYahoo!I'm glad Lt. Dubya is taking advantage of his National Guard flight training. Seeing him supervise the Air Force One crew on approach to Baghdad was almost as stirring a sight as seeing him "land" on an aircraft carrier wearing his best Daddy-Go-to-Photo-Op flight suit.
And how about those photos of White House Disinformation Czar Tony Snow? I'm glad Michael Dukakis didn't ruin the helmet wearing fun for all the pols. Tony - word - get that damn brain-bucket sized, will ya'? From the looks of it, there's enough room for an insurgent to stow away under there.
Operation SnowjobThere lots of buzz about the global photo-op, but it really doesn't amount to much. Daddy Warspendabucks snuck in the back door - uninvited and unannounced - to visit his good friends and close allies, the Iraqis. I'm not sure what the US reaction would be if al-Maliki decided to visit the US in similar fashion, but looking good for the cameras would probably be the least of his worries.
As far as I can tell, the trip was a wash. The folks who think Dub is a grandstanding git got their suspicions reinforced. The dwindling number still supporting the aforementioned git thought it was a stirring display of unity, courage, and a reminder of yet another corner turned in Iraq. The troops either got a day off to go listen to George's wind blow, or worked an extra shift on the Green Zone .50 cal to protect his sorry ass. George's photo-ops always have something for everybody.
While the trip had little real or practical value, it did give Dear Leader an opportunity to talk to his titular allies and what he talked about was telling in a Bushian sort of way.
Amidst all the attaboys and picking of nicknames for his new-found friends - I heard he favors "Cousin Couscous" for al Maliki - he managed to remind the Iraqis and anyone else who would listen that the Mess-in-Potamia was an all Iraqi affair. He pledged undying support or pretty words until the mid-term elections - whichever comes first.
So here it is in a nutshell. The Nutty Cowboy sneaks into your country, shows up on your doorstep unannounced like the family's bad Uncle looking for a loan, and starts telling you that even though he mucked up your country it's absolutely your place to put things right. Then, he claps you on the back, says "Attaboy Couscous" and flies back to Washington.
Yeah, that seems about like his normal diplomacy to me. I don't get what all the hubbub is about.
