Polling and Political Wrap-Up, 8/14/10

Fifteen days and 3659 miles later, your intrepid curator of the Wrap has returned from far-flung places. It's good to be back, of course, although the in-box did swell to fairly preposterous proportions in my absence.

With that in mind, consider this return edition of the Wrap to be the "clearing out the in-box" edition of the Wrap. No campaign stories in this edition, folks--this one is pure data. Allow this to be a pretty comprehensive compendium of the polls that have accumulated over the past two weeks. A special tip o' that hat to both Swing State Project and DC's Political Report for filling the gaps.

FDA approves emergency 5-day contraceptive

Good. From ABC:

Federal health officials on Friday approved a new type of morning-after contraceptive that works longer than the current leading drug on the market.

The pill ella from HRA Pharma reduces the chance of pregnancy up to five days after sex. Plan B, the most widely used emergency contraceptive pill, begins losing its ability to prevent pregnancy within three days of sex.

Billy Preston is best known as the "Fifth Beatle" for his keyboard work with the Fab Four on the Abbey Road sessions. His resume also included the Rolling Stones, Ray Charles, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many more heavy hitters across various genres. Tonight's selection is off of his 1971 record, I Wrote A Simple Song. Thanks to my buddy Keith for reminding me of this.

Yeah, Rand, the whole "Aqua Buddha" thing will just disappear over the latest 24-hour news cycle, and that will be it - sure it will (h/t Daily Kos - if you think Paul is full of it and you want to help his opponent, click here)...

...and I sure hope those zany teabaggers don't find out about this song; I'd just hate to give them an anthem of sorts (that probably won't happen, though, now that I think of it, because the song has nothing to do with a birth certificate, "socialism" or threats of violence).

(P.S. - Good for him for standing up on the mosque, by the way, though he does seem to be "walking that back" a bit.)
