Mary Cheney fighting to stop gay marriage ban in
California.

GayWired.com reports:

Though she long sat on the sidelines as her father served as second in command over the past eight years, Vice-President Dick Cheney?s daughter Mary is flexing her political muscle and joining the fight to stop Prop. 8.

According to the website RepublicansAgainst8.com, Cheney pledged $3,000 back in July to the campaign to stop the ballot measure attempting to re-ban gay marriage in California.

RepublicansAgainst8 was founded by the Log Cabin Republicans. The group recently endorsed Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), who supports Prop. 8.

MCCAIN ON THE VIEW.

It's a sad commentary on the state of our news media that the toughest, most substantive, most unyielding interview John McCain has endured happened on The View. The first clip -- which I can't seem to embed -- is particularly powerful. I could imagine[...]

Dave Lindorff: Experience is Over-Rated

Sarah Palin stated again, most recently in her interview yesterday by ABC's Charlie Gibson, that she has foreign policy experience because as governor of Alaska she has been in charge of that state's National Guard, and because Alaska is, doggone it, "right next" to Russia.

This made me feel pretty good, because it made me realize that I have a whole lot of skills and experience that I hadn't really appreciated before, and that I could perhaps use to get myself out of this freelance journalism profession, which is not all that great from a financial perspective.

I, for instance, live very close to the garage where my mechanic works (I mean, I drive past the place every day and even buy my gas there), so I'm ready to be a car mechanic (I can't tell you how many cars I've seen go over there, and have even sometimes watched a bit as my own vehicles were up on the lift). I also live literally across the street from a large forest, which qualifies me to be a number of things -- forest ranger, lumberjack, and perhaps naturalist.

McCain Can't Explain His Lies

More good stuff from the interview with The View at HuffPo here.

And the Quote of the Day:

"I am prepared. I am prepared. I need no on-the-job training. I wasn't a mayor for a short period of time. I wasn't a governor for a short period of time."

--John McCain

After NBC political director discredited it,
MSNBC uncritically ran McCain campaign ad attacking Obama

On the September 12 edition of MSNBC Live, anchor Alex Witt aired a new adby Sen. John McCain's campaign that suggests that Sen. BarackObama's campaign is being "disrespectful" to Gov. SarahPalin. Neither Witt nor her guest, NBCNews deputy political director Mark Murray, gave any indication that the adcontains several distortions or that, in the previous hour of the program, NBCNews political director Chuck Todd said, "The ad that McCain'shitting Obama on takes some words out of context."In its[...]
