After many technical hurdles and evolving ideas on what this online community should look like, I've taken the step of re-opening the discussion forums. Barring glitches, this should be the first step in opening up mediagirl.org so that members here have more ways of sharing their ideas.
Over the coming weeks and months, we will continue to work on new features and bring in some of the latest tools Drupal has to offer to enhance member experiences here.
I'm realistic enough to know that change is not going to happen overnight here. However, I am open to ideas on how mediagirl.org can be a better place for progressive political thought, media criticism and feminist discussion and outreach.
If you have any suggestions, please post them here.

Add to myYahoo! As we slouch toward a shooting war with Iran
"[...]But the fact remains that the longstanding war of words between Washington and Tehran is edging toward something more dangerous. A second Navy carrier group is steaming toward the Persian Gulf, and NEWSWEEK has learned that a third carrier will likely follow. Iran shot off a few missiles in those same tense waters last week, in a highly publicized test. With Americans and Iranians jousting on the chaotic battleground of Iraq, the chances of a small incident's spiraling into a crisis are higher than they've been in years. [...]"
Maybe it's time we sent those cards and letters in. Ask Congressman Doolittle to go on record whether or not he supports going to war with Iran.

Add to myYahoo!Too many lawmakers have fallen for the myths that are invoked to try to sell the president's new war aims. Let us consider the most pernicious of them.
- We must continue the war to prevent the terrible aftermath that will occur if our forces are withdrawn soon. Reflect on the double-think of this formulation. We are now fighting to prevent what our invasion made inevitable! Undoubtedly we will leave a mess -- the mess we created, which has become worse each year we have remained. Lawmakers gravely proclaim their opposition to the war, but in the next breath express fear that quitting it will leave a blood bath, a civil war, a terrorist haven, a "failed state," or some other horror. But this "aftermath" is already upon us; a prolonged U.S. occupation cannot prevent what already exists.

Add to myYahoo!Surely this isn’t serious, and in Hollywood Rudy was just pitching his role in a movie named “Like Bush,” eh? But here it is; Rudy wants to be “Like Bush”, at least according to his speech at a luncheon in California yesterday. In his 45-minute address and in remarks to reporters afterward, Giuliani [...]
