Obama Sits Down with The Advocate

The LGBT community has been questioning why Barack Obama has not spoken to the gay and lesbian media as much as Hillary Clinton. Sen. Clinton has been on the cover of The Advocate and given interviews to Logo and smaller papers. Obama only spoke out[...]

Laura Ingraham Soothes BillOs Tortured Soul

A noted philosophe on all things gender related, (remember when she called Brett Favre “a woman” for tearing up at his retirement announcement?) Laura Ingraham was drafted onto the O’Reilly Factor to explain the Elton John thing to the confused host. Poor BillO apparently needed reassurance from Laura Ingraham that misogyny in [...]

Bush ‘approved’ of top
advisers’ talks on interrogation.

ABC News recently revealed that President Bush’s most senior and trusted advisers met in “dozens of top-secret talks and meetings in the White House” beginning in 2002 to approve the use of “combined” interrogation techniques. In a new interview with ABC’s Martha Raddatz, Bush confirms that he approved of these meetings:

President Bush says he knew his top national security advisors discussed and approved specific details about how high-value al Qaeda suspects would be interrogated by the Central Intelligence Agency, according to an exclusive interview with ABC News Friday.

“Well, we started to connect the dots, in order to protect the American people.” Bush told ABC News White House correspondent Martha Raddatz. “And, yes, I’m aware our national security team met on this issue. And I approved.”

During the interview, Bush also defends using waterboarding against Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, stating, “We had legal opinions that enabled us to do it. And, no, I didn’t have any problem at all trying to find out what Khalid Sheikh Mohammed knew.”

Obama's Gaffe

By Big Tent Democrat

Speaking for me only

Yes, Obama messed up (HuffPo provides audio:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them... And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Not good. But Obama is a Media Darling and Bill Clinton screwed up today so Obama will get away with it mostly unscathed. That's why he is the better choice for Dem nominee. More . . .

This presents us with a real test of my Obama Media Darling theory. McCain is pounding this:

Asked to respond, McCain adviser Steve Schmidt called it a "remarkable statement and extremely revealing."

"It shows an elitism and condescension towards hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking," Schmidt said. "It is hard to imagine someone running for president who is more out of touch with average Americans.

I predict Obama gets away with it. Hillary Hate in the Media trumps McCain Love. See Wright, Jeremiah, so far.

Will Obama win over Pennsylvanians

Mayhill Fowler provides a great look at the characteristics and culture of the Keystone State and provides some extra advice to Obama, who she obviously supports. What’s oddest is how her commentors make all kinds of assumptions about her motives and fine storytelling abilities. In addition to some Obama fans thinking she’s attacking him, some [...]

The Cheerleader-In-Chief

You know all those times when Bush told us things were going great in Iraq? Turns out he didn't really mean it.

"How worried were you?" Raddatz asked.

"I was worried. Look, I'm worried any time it looks like we're going to fail in Iraq," Bush said.

During that time in 2006, when many were saying Iraq was in a full-blown civil war, Bush kept his rhetoric upbeat saying in speeches that, "We're winning" and "We have a plan for victory."

Raddatz asked the president about that and the president insisted he did it to keep up troop morale.

"That's as much to try and bolster the spirits of the people in the field as well -- you can't have the commander-in-chief say to a bunch of kids who are sacrificing that either it's not worth it or you're losing. What does that do for morale?" Bush said.

Apparently the president's job isn't to tell the American people or the American military the truth, it's to tell them a comforting (and self-aggrandizing) lie.  You can't tell soldiers that they're dying for no good reason -- especially if you expect them to keep on dying indefinitely.

Shake those pom-poms, George.
