Friday Night at 8: Random

Old family story.  My mother would never admit she was wrong about anything while we kids were growing up ... with six children and little money, I guess she felt she had to be stronger than human or everything would fall apart.Anyway, one day we[...]

Senate Forecast - October 10 - Georgia on my mind

Senate Forecast: 57.4 (+6.4), another big jump of 0.4 from the previous forecast. The first 4: VA, NM, CO, NH are over. In MN, seat #59, Franken leads in the last 3 polls, and in GA, seat #62, the latest poll shows Martin and Chambliss tied at 45.

The Senate Forecast is an average of the projections of the Democratic held seats in the 2009 Senate. (We count Sanders and Lieberman as Democrats in the Senate Forecast. Feel free to subtract one if you so desire!) A history of the Forecast going back to November 2006 is at bottom and in the left sidebar.

Be sure to also check out our Presidential Forecast and our House Forecast.

The following seats are unanimous strong and are not shown in the table below (We do show VA as it is a pickup; NJ is also in the table but will be removed in the next post):

Solid Democrat: AR (Pryor), DE (Biden), IA (Harkin). IL (Durbin), MA (Kerry), MI (Levin), MT (Baucus), RI (Reed), SD (Johnson), WV (Rockefeller).
Solid Republican: AL (Sessions), ID (Open), KS (Roberts), MS (Cochrane), NE (Open), OK (Inhofe), SC (Graham), TN (Alexander), TX (Cornyn), WY (Barraso), WY (Enzi). (Note that 2 projections have Cornyn at RL. If that trend continues, we will add the seat to the chart).

Paulson: a new way to give my friends money!

There is no reason not to insist on Buffett shares, and real control of the companies. Stop screwing around and de-facto or outright nationalize them. If they aren't able or willing to lend they obviously aren't functional banks and maintaining the[...]

I Need Your Help

I need your help. And I'd really appreciate it if you can spare a little time for this.

As you know the current TPM commenting and blogging set up leaves a lot to be desired. And this weekend we're doing some final testing of our upgraded system that we're hoping to roll out on Monday. The features are much more robust than the current setup. And they make it easier to follow conversations you're participating.

But we need some more readers to volunteer to test the new set up before we launch. It doesn't take a lot of time. We just want you to try out the new version of the site which is currently on a non-public server as we get the final bugs out. Trying the new commenting system, do a test blog post, try out a few of the new tools.

Like I said, I'd really appreciate it if folks can help us out with this. It doesn't take much time and it will help us give you a much better experience in the time you spend on all the TPM network sites, and especially here at TPMCafe.

If you can help us tonight that's great but over the weekend will help too. If you're game please send an email to tpmbeta (at) gmail.com and we'll get you set up and ready to go.

And, again, I really appreciate it.

Charles Keating to McCain: Im yours til death do
us part.

0622keating_1605f.jpg Wasn't McCain already married to Cindy?

The Washington Times reports that in 1986, John McCain wrote a note on House stationery to Charles Keating, chairman of a failed savings and loan association who went to prison in the late 1980s. In the letter, McCain apologized for listing Keating as part of his Senate campaign finance committee. Keating wrote in response: ?You can call me anything, write anything or do anything. I?m yours till death do us part?

Does America know that John McCain was sending love notes to an unrepentant S&L thug on official House of Representatives stationary? I'm sure Hannity will want this info immediately.
