What's He Trying To Hide

This graphic tells us a lot about the two major candidates running for president this year. One (Obama) has released his tax returns for the last twelve years. We know how much he and his wife made, how much they gave to charity (a substantial amount), and how much they paid in taxes for more than a decade.

The other (Romney) has only released one year's worth of tax returns (plus an "approximation" of income and taxes for last year). Doesn't that make you wonder what he is trying to hide? In all those other years where he is refusing to divulge his returns, did he make even more than the $21 million he made in 2010 (without working a single day) and pay even less than the 13% tax rate he paid for 2010?

If we are to elect Romney president, and in doing so accept his tax plans (which will cut his own taxes while doing nothing for the middle and working classes), shouldn't we first know what his income and taxes have been for more than one year? And if he can't be honest with the American people about this, how can they expect him to be honest about anything else once elected?

The Nightowl Newswrap

By BG & YD

  • Need help packing, Shelly? @MicheleBachmann has been granted dual Swiss citizenship. Wait til she gets a load of THAT tax rate and finds out about the healthcare system. She'll plotz.

  • Pat Robertson is fervently trying to pray away the gay. On Wednesday the teevee preacher asked gays and lesbians to pray with him that the gay would go away so they will stop "displeasing Jesus" and being abominations and stuff.  Even though there is not one single word in the New Testament about homosexuality. There is a lot of stuff about helping the poor and comforting the afflicted - maybe he should ask the republicans to pray with him to mend their ways that actually would offend the historical figure we know as Jesus.

  • #FAIL A school in Ft. Worth, TX has given itself a failing grade after it was pointed out that it has misspelled its own name for over nine years.

  • Austerity kills. Italy is in the midst of a suicide epidemic as people unable to cope with the loss of jobs and livelihoods are killing themselves in record numbers as the economic downturn grinds on and gets worse under harsh austerity measures.

  • You knew this was coming The pearl-clutchers and intelligence-sinks at FauxSnooze - who spent weeks on end whining about gas prices and how they were Obama's fault, are now whinging about falling gas prices and wondering aloud if the price falling at the pump is "a bad thing."

  • What's the matter with Algeria? No Arab Spring revolt, just mass apathy. "Algeria is gearing up for parliamentary elections, which authorities have pledged will be the freest ever. Nearly 22 million Algerians are registered to vote for 44 parties, half of which were just legalised this year, for a parliament that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika promises will have a say in rewriting the constitution. But after decades of repression and rigged contests, turnout in Thursday's vote may not surpass the 35 per cent seen in the last elections in 2007. Algeria's youth, who account for close to three quarters of the 37 million inhabitants, looks set to abstain en masse amid fears over the vote's credibility and deep distrust of the political class."

And finally...

  • Headline of the Week: "Turtle Dove Rescue Mission Begins" "Conservationists are embarking on an urgent mission to save one of the UK's most threatened birds from extinction. The three-year project, led by the RSPB, will aim to reverse a decline in the population of the farmland birds; the species is deemed the most likely bird to be extinct in the UK by 2020. The turtle dove population fell by more than 90% between 1997 and 2010. Part of the project will aim to restore plants that the birds feed on to the countryside. The birds' diet consists almost entirely of small seeds from wild plants, which grow among crops. Changes in farming practices in recent decades mean these wild flowers - including vetch, fumitory and clover - are now scarce. As part of the project, the team will work with farmers to plant these seeds on their land."

Having a purpose in life is good for your long
term health

Interesting. The study is published in the May issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry."Our study showed that people who reported greater purpose in life exhibited better cognition than those with less purpose in life even as plaques and tangles accumulated in their brains," said Patricia A. Boyle, PhD."These findings suggest that purpose in life protects against the harmful effects...

David Vitter-- A Deranged Anti-American
Confederate

David Vitter is probably best known as a hypocrite and sex pervert who has been preaching "family values" as a career path in backward parts of Louisiana, while spending more time in diapers, being spanked by hookers, than any other member of the Senate. But that isn't even the most unattractive thing about Vitter, one of the Senate's most heinous reactionaries. Like many of the worst of the obstructionist, mostly unreconstructed Confederate lawmakers, Vitter is a die-hard cheerleader for failure. Everything he does in the Senate is predicated on bringing about the collapse of democracy and of the United States government. Vitter is a blight on the greatness of this country-- and so are the brainwashed idiots who elect him. I should add that in 2010, what's left of the Democratic Party in Louisiana didn't offer much of an alternative, just another corrupt, conservative Blue Dog, Charlie Melancon, who lost 57-38% and immediately took a job as a lobbyist. Vitter won every parish in the state except Assumption, East Carroll, Iberville, Orleans, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, St. James, and St. John the Baptist-- 715,415 votes against Melancon's 476,572. I wonder what would happen if there was just a straight up vote for secession?

As Chris Hayes, sitting in for Rachel Maddow on Monday night, explained, Vitter is blocking-- on behalf of the Republican Party-- bipartisan Fed nominations because he and his party fear an improved economic situation in America could doom Romney's shot at the presidency and doom the Republicans' bid to capture the Senate. Is it treason? You bet it is!

Colbert Rebuked with Sr Helena's Great and
Terrible Ruler of Horrible Retribution

Sr Helena Burns, fsp, a "Media nun [who] tweets Media Literacy, Theology of Body, Philosophy, [and] overlooked Catholic news" is one angry Bride of Christ. She's channelling Der Pöpenführer's recent rage against her socialist poverty-fighting sisters and redirecting it at the world's worst Catholic, Stephen Colbert. Why? Well, Mr Colbert made a joke about about Timothy Cardinal Dolan's immaculate unit:

Of course, now some, some critics have said in response to this that if the Catholic church's insurance does not cover Sandra Fluke's birth control, it shouldn't cover Cardinal Dolan's Viagra.

Oh, no, no, no. Oh, no, no, no, that's called celibacy plus. That's how the pros do it. Because chastity is one thing, but it shows true commitment to uphold your vows when you are sporting a crook you could hang a miter on. Oh, wow, see you at mass on Sunday, sir?
Here's her response:
Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
Agree w @FatherJimChern that Colbert went too far vulgarly slamming @CardinalDolan . No one got slammed harder. Oh, except maybe Jesus.
(Link)
Yes, someone always gets hurt when people get to funnin', and that someone is always Jesus.
Sister Burns continues:
Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
Here's full text of what Colbert said to/about @CardinalDolan @ TIME's 100 most influential people gala. Beyond vulgar.
(Link)

Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
Colbert & I are definitely not the same religion. Read his entire short address VERY carefully
(Link)

Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
Colbert is younger gen's sacred cow. When sez "I'm Catholic" means he can get away w anything & gives them a pass 2 do same
(Link)

Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
@williamPriceIII A true Catholic would never say those things. To be Catholic: orthodoxy, orthopraxis and some modicum of charity/respect.
(Link)
Then, Mrs. Christ gets to the real reason Colbert so rudely referred to Cardinal Dolan's Small but Mighty Staff of Strapping Young Congregant Correction--the reason he didn't actually mention in his remarks--Colbert is jealous about the close, Christ-based relationship so many priests have with altar boys:
Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
If Colbert (or whoever wrote Dolan attack) is ticked over priest abuse scandal-just have courage 2 say so. I'm still ticked, 2.
(Link)
But then, again, maybe it isn't about altar boy abuse. Maybe it's about something far worse:
Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
I dont think Colbert's Dolan attack IS abt priest abuse scandal. Its abt precious birth control-WHOLE talk pretty clear
(Link)
It's all part of the sad, sorry, plight of American Catholics. No doubt it's something the six Catholic Supreme Court justices face every day.
Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
Am Caths have 2 b stupidest religious people on planet. World heaps dung on us & we dont even know its dung. We laugh & say tx: more please!
(Link)

Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
I'm tweetin' angry. Prolly not a good idea. Kinda like tweetin' drunk. Gonna stop now. :]
(Link)

Sr Helena Burns, fsp ? @SrHelenaBurns
@williamPriceIII A bit of hyperbole. But really, how COULD Colbert and I possibly be the same religion? I just don't recognize when he spks
