Maverick McCain Not when it counts

The Arizona Republic explains the reality the DC media establishment tries to ignore:Over the years, Sen. John McCain has publicly condemned Republican Party leaders and occasionally voted against the GOP on selected issues. But an Arizona Republic analysis of his Senate votes on the most divided issues in the past decade shows that McCain almost never thwarted [...]

McCain Wins Landslide in North Carolina!

Hey, why is nobody discussing the really big story from Tuesday. While the TV talking heads are whining about Limbaugh’s boost to one Democratic campaign or another, or camped out on the Hillary Concession Watch, they’ve ignored the big story. John McCain, after having all his opponents concede weeks and weeks ago, won the North Carolina Republican Primary in a LANDSLIDE! He got 74% of the vote. Here are those results from ABCNews:

Republican Primary ResultsTuesday, May 6
Real-time Race Results: Updated May 7, 2008 - 7:20 PM (all times Eastern Standard)
Precincts Reporting 100%
Candidate Votes Vote % Delegates Projected Winner
McCain 381,616 74%
Huckabee 62,798 12%
Paul 37,132 7%
No Preference 20,527 4%
Keyes 13,562 3%

The story here is that John McCain didn’t win 95% of the vote or more. He came 20% short of that total. Seems Mike Huckabee still has some following, and you can expect the 7% or so for Ron Paul, the last whack job standing. But check out that Alan Keyes! I’m thinking that might be some kind of Democratic crossover vote of people hoping to see a Keyes/Obama rematch — some Democrat who wants utter slaughter in November. Seriously, after John McCain has been on the campaign trail for practically three years, after numerous other candidates and far too many Republican debates, it is amazing to me that 4% of the North Carolina electorate chose “no preference.”

This is not the unanimous vote that McCain needs. Indeed, this vote is far from it. Yet nobody in the mainstream media has said a thing on the subject.

A black reader weighs in on Hillary's new round
of race-baiting

An African-American reader weighs in on Hillary's latest race-baiting:

As a hard-working black man, let me not mince words, fuck her!

Enough is enough, even if she did somehow manage to steal the nomination from Obama, she's will get beaten, badly, in November. Given how racially tinged this race has been and the fact that the country is 65% or so white, she should have been blowing the doors off of Obama, but she hasn't and that says volumes. So she can take her Jim Crow, "fear of a black man" tactics and go find the nearest KKK meeting to solicit votes from, she's through with this campaign.

She's had every advantage a candidate could want and she's still getting her butt handed to her by the "inexperienced" and apparently "lazy" Senator Obama. I think her lack of winning is as much an indication of her inability to win as it is Obama's ability to defy the expectations set by many a year ago.

The pundits have been politely asking her to step down or at least play nice for the last couple of months, maybe it's time to no longer be so polite.
Amen. And may I ask, where are the black leaders in Congress and outside? [Crickets]

And you thought Rev. Wright was bad

Meet the spiritual adviser to Senator McCain, Reverend Parsley. He is another one of those "agents of intolerance" McCain spoke about in 2000. In one of his ignoble flip-flops, McCain actively sought out his endorsement and help, mainly to turn away Governor Huckabee's efforts.

video details and more

Hat Tip; Robert Greenwald of Brave new Films.

Well now meet Rev. Rod Parsley, the televangelist megachurch pastor from Ohio who hates Islam. According to David Corn of Mother Jones, Parsley has called on Christians to wage war against Islam, which he considers to be a "false religion." In the past, Parsley has also railed against the separation of church and state, homosexuals, and abortion rights, comparing Planned Parenthood to Nazis.

John McCain actively sought and received Parsley's endorsement in the presidential race. McCain has called Parsley "a spiritual guide," and he hasn't said whether he shares Parsley's vicious anti-Islam views. That's because the mainstream media refuses to ask. And so, we've taken matters into our own hands, joining Mother Jones to present the truth about McCain's pastor.

Since the media won't question McCain about his deeply bigoted pastor, it's up to you to call attention to this issue. Make McCain's pastor problem a major story by forwarding this video to your family, friends, and colleagues.

We can't let McCain get away with aligning himself with a religious leader who's called for an all-out war on Islam, someone who draws no distinctions between Muslims and violent Islamic extremists. Now is the crucial time to act.
McCain thinks the media is in his pocket. Too bad that the Independent media (like us) is not in his pocket. We're not gonna let this get swept under the table, while the pundits go ape over Rev. Wright. Last I checked, Rev. Wright wasn't calling for the extermination of an entire religion!

But this sort of endorsement is what McCain wants and needs. He wants the vote of bigots to counter the new voters of Obama. However, he forgot that when you lay down with dogs, you get fleas. And according to the Truth About McCain blog, the Flip-Flop Express has a LOT of fleas.

Don't think for a minute this will be the last video on Parsley. If fact, if you want to, go digging for more Rev. Parsley videos and see for yourself what sort of man 'advises' McCain. Is THIS why McCain and by extension Clinton want a nuclear first-strike on Iran? To appease apocalyptic nutcases like Hagee and Parsley?

Rightwing Jews Will Vote for McCain and Should

Interesting piece in New Republic today proving that Obama will not have a problem with Jews in November despite his perceived "sympathy" for Palestinians.

This whole line of argument leaves me cold. I hope Obama has sympathy for Palestinians and demonstrates it after he becomes President. Without such sympathy neither Obama nor any other President can do a damn thing to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and get Israel out of the dangerous mess it is in.

I understand that there are Jews who think that having an iota of sympathy for Palestinians means one is anti-Israel. Utter stupidity. The current administration is 100% sympathetic to Israel and indifferent to the Palestinians. The result: eight of the most hopeless years in Israel's history (in direct contrast to the Clinton years where sympathy for Israelis and Palestinians brought them closer to peace and security than ever before or since).

The good news is that the number of Jews who think that way is very small, very old, and limited to small pockets (especially south Florida). Yes, I know Florida is important. By all means, go after Florida. But Democrats need to understand that they have as little chance of winning the "all I care about is Israel" crowd as they do of winning their "all I care about is getting rid of Castro" counterparts. (There is some overlap too. See "Debbie Wasserman-Schultz").

I say: write these people off. FDR created a new winning coalition and so can Obama. The overwhelming majority of young Jews are for him. Sucking up to the "Israel is all I care about crowd" turns off most Jews and anyone else who pays attention to this issue.

I'll tell you one thing. I have no intention of trying to prove to Likudnik Jews this fall that Obama is better for Israel. I will simply say that if their definition of "good" for Israel is preserving the status quo, they ought to vote for McCain. There is little chance he will push negotiations and Obama will (at least I hope he will).

I certainly won't argue with any liberal who agrees with Obama on every other issue but threatens to vote for McCain because he's "better" on Israel. That is a repulsive sentiment. (Like the vehemently pro-choice woman I met who said she is "very worried about the Supreme Court" but has to vote for McCain because Obama's West Bank policies worry her).

I have no problem with Jewish Republicans -- the ones who want low taxes and no social programs. They are entitled to those views, much as I don't like them. They simply have a different vision of America than I have. They are conservatives. I'm a liberal.

But those who say they agree with Obama on everything else but will vote against him because of Israel are basically saying that they do not care about the country we live in, the fate of their neighbors or their kids.
.
I can hardly think of anything more offensive. Those who think that way should vote for McCain and then purchase their El Al tickets and move to Israel.

Obama must not pander to that dwindling crowd. Nothing will make them vote for Obama.
They didn't like him from the first time they saw his face or heard his name. They do not vote based on any sort of vision of what is good for America. They live here but their heart is elsewhere. Forget about them.

Fortunately they represent only a tiny minority of Jewish voters. Courting them is as pointless as it is offensive.

PS McCain will court them but, much as I am no McCain fan, I know that if he knew these people, he wouldn't. Call him what you will, the man is a patriot. I think if any American \ever tried the "all I care about is Israel" line on McCain, he'd take their head off.

MS-01 Childers Campaign: Money still needed

Yesterday's big push it turns out was for a media buy. I asked a contact in the campaign if they would still be able to use the funds we raise today forward. After checking, I was told emphatically yes. So don't believe a word I said about it ending at midnight. We can still reach our goal.
