A tough loss, but an important message

NV-Sen and NV-Gov: Chicken Sue Lowden's last
stand

With early voting in Chicken Sue Lowden (36.5%) has a small lead over Sharron Angle (33.2%) and Danny Tarkanian (19.9%) for the GOP's Senate nomination, but Jon Ralston tweets that it's not enough for Lowden: she needed a bigger cushion out of Clark County early voting.

In the Gubernatorial race, Rory Reid (Harry's son) has easily won the Democratic nomination. He'll face Brian Sandoval who is crushing incumbent Republican Governor Jim Gibbons (who happens to be the nation's worst governor).

Results here.

Update 1: Lowden's tiny lead is even tinier -- 34.8% to 33.9%, with just 0.3% reporting.

Tuesday Stuff

"Worst Persons" (Rand Paul proves to be as clueless on the BP disaster as he is on the Civil Rights Act; Matt Kibbe of Dick Armey's Astroturf outfit "Freedom Works" blames that dern "gumint" for the BP mess, which he calls a "natural" disaster, about as "natural" to me as Lindsay Lohan getting busted for coke for the fifty gazillionth time; but Rupert The Pirate gets top honors for whooping his not-so-great unwashed followers into a frenzy over some alleged "Muslims" at the WTC site, who turn out to be Christians instead - in the immortal words of Max Bialystock in "The Producers," "just say 'oops' and get out!")...

AR-Sen: Lincoln Beats Halter

Bill Halter challenged a sitting southern Democrat from the left--he came close, but he didn?t make it. The Arkansas Lieutenant Governor lost narrowly in a runoff primary to Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln, 48 to 52 percent, with 94 percent of[...]

AR-Sen: Back and forth (Update: Not really)

New results here. Compare results to three weeks ago here.

I know the only race anybody cares about is Orly Taitz's bid to be the GOP nominee for Secretary of State in California, but for now you'll have to settle for the Arkansas Senate race, where with 63.5% reporting, Blanche Lincoln is clinging to a 51.3% - 48.7% lead over Bill Halter. Lincoln had been leading all night, but Halter briefly took the lead, and now Lincoln has retaken it.

Update I: It appears that Halter's brief surge was the result of a clerical error, so it's not really back and forth. With 64.2% in, Lincoln is up 51.2% to 48.8% over Halter.

Update II: Lincoln at 51.3% with 65.6% in.

Outside of AR-Sen: The Odds and Ends of Primary
Night

While we anxiously continue to watch the tally in Arkansas, here's a quick synopsis of some of other other activity across the country.

  • Shock of the night thus far on the Dem side happened in South Carolina: Victor Rawl, who had actually raised six figures in his bid to challenge Jim DeMint, has lost (59-41) to Alvin Greene, who has raised so little cash that he didn't even need to file an FEC report.
  • Runoffs will determine GOP nominees in SC-01, SC-03, and SC-04, where Rep. Bob Inglis will survive the night, but it is only a temporary reprieve. He has just 26% of the vote, well behind Trey Gowdy, who has 42% of the vote.
  • Results in Maine just seem to be trickling in. Two hours after closing, we are looking at around 10% of precincts reporting. Waterville Mayor Paul LePage leads with 34% of the vote, leading presumptive frontrunner Les Otten (19%). On the Democratic side, Steve Rowe (32%) and Libby Mitchell (31%) are locked up in a dead heat.
  • Meanwhile, in the Garden State, the Republican voters of New Jersey are tossing a curveball or two tonight. Former NFL lineman Jon Runyan held on to win in NJ-03, but by a thoroughly unspectacular margin (59-41). Ditto for moderate freshman Republican Leonard Lance, who leads his primary in NJ-07 by an underwhelming 56% of the vote.
  • In South Dakota, the GOP got their most electable candidate for Governor as Lt. Governor Dennis Daugaard was an easy winner. Not so easy was the path for Sec. of State Chris Nelson, who actually trails Kristi Noem in the battle to take on Rep. Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin.

AR-Sen: Lincoln hanging on to narrow lead

New results here. Compare results to three weeks ago here.

With 41.8% in, Lincoln has 51.4% to Halter's 48.6%.

Meanwhile, the Arkansas Secretary of State's office is saying Garland County failed to give voters proper notice that there would be only two polling stations open for the run-off. Halter's campaign says the reduction in stations led to very long lines in a county he won and a voter has filed suit against Garland County, alleging that voters were purposefully disenfranchised.

Update I: 44.4% in, Lincoln 51.1%, Halter 48.9%.

Update II: 47.2% in, Lincoln 51.2%, Halter 48.8%.

Update III: 48.9% in, Lincoln 51.1%, Halter 48.9%.

Update IV: 54.8% in, Lincoln 51.0%, Halter 49.0%.

Update V: 56.5% in, Lincoln 49.0%, Halter 51.0%.
