Very good news today, coming from the leader of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver. Mr. Cleaver is concerned about the tone of politics these days, and since it's unfair for the Republicans to charge the President with waging a war on[...]

Enjoyable read by Edward A. Fallone of the Marquette U. Law School.
Christian Schneider, a propagandist embedded in the rightwing nexus funding and imposing fiats and decrees upon our Wisconsin citizenry, wrote a column, "Not what they meant democracy to look like," appearing in the Journal-Sentinel this weekend.
Giving Schneider the benefit of the doubt that he believes what he writes, Schneider means to offer a quasi-scholastic analysis of the Wisconsin recall, contending early twentieth-century texts show recalls are intended to be used in limited and rare circumstances.
The word 'devastating' is underemployed in describing rational examination of rightwing propaganda, so I'll use it here. Fallone's response is devastating, and is a fun Easter weekend read.
Gorge Orwell was amazingly prescient. He understood how the public?s understanding of history could be manipulated by propaganda, and how history itself has no existence except in the minds of the masses. The debate over the Wisconsin Recalls provides all of us with an opportunity to observe the ongoing attempt to re-write history right before our eyes.
Wow. Breathtaking point of view from the editors at My Fox 35 Orlando.[...]

Imagine being an elderly person on Social Security and President Romney announces there will be a 40 percent cut in your payments. Then your local government announces that your electricity will be cut off if you can't pay your property taxes. That's what austerity looks like in Greece. That's why Dimitris Christoulas, a 77-year-old retired druggist, killed himself in a public square this week, clutching a suicide note:
"The occupation government ... has literally wiped out my ability to survive, based on a respectable pension which I had paid for during a 35-year period. I find no other solution for a dignified end before I start sifting through garbage to feed myself."
The Republicans in their thoroughly dishonest and amoral way keep trying to draw a comparison between the U.S.'s deficit and Greece's economic crisis, so they can rationalize the same kind of austerity measures here ? all to fund more tax cuts for the wealthy, of course.
The news of this one old man's public suicide triggered another round of riots in Athens. Republicans should be careful. After all, you never do know exactly what's going to set people off:
On Friday, police fired teargas at hundreds of Greek workers who had staged a rally outside the Bank of Greece and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to protest against losing their savings as a result of the country's bailout deal.
The demonstrators chanted slogans such as "Thieves!" and "Take the austerity package and get out!"
?They lowered our pensions. We can?t take anymore. We should all commit suicide,? Secretary of the Union of Dockworkers Fotis Siakaras said during the protest, referring to the retired elderly man who shot himself in the head over financial problems outside the parliament on Wednesday.
The suicide incident has sparked violent anti-austerity protest rallies in Athens.
Greece has been in a financial crisis since 2010 and has relied on international bailout loans ever since.
In order to secure a EUR 130 billion bailout package funded mostly by eurozone member states and the International Monetary Fund, the country had to adopt harsh austerity measures including massive cuts to its private and public sector wages, pensions, health and defense spending, which have worsened the economic recession, leading to thousands of job losses.
You Negroes in Tulsa can relax a little more tonight. Apparently the local po po has apprehended the alleged shooters of Negroes in the Tulsa area. (No, it wasn't Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh.) Apparently it was a couple of losers, and one of them held a grudge against us blacks folks. (No, it wasn't Glen Beck or Rush Limbaugh)
Hopefully this incident won't encourage my other NRA loving -Negro hating- friends to pick up their arms.
"Two men were arrested Sunday in a deadly string of shootings that spread fear in Tulsa's black community, and police said they were looking at a possible Facebook posting by one of the suspects that suggested he was angry over the killing of his father by a black man.
Acting on an anonymous tip, police took the suspects into a custody at a home just outside town around 2 a.m. Authorities said they planned to charge them with murder and other offenses in a series of shootings early Friday that left three people dead and two critically wounded, all of them black.
Police identified both suspects as white but said investigators have yet to establish whether the attacks on the city's predominantly black north side were racially motivated, as many in the community feared.
However, police spokesman Jason Willingham said investigators are looking at a Facebook page in which it appears one of the men, 19-year-old Jake England, expressed anger over his father being shot and killed by a black man. Willingham said police were aware of the page but he could not say for certain it was England's....'We don't have a motive at this time. We are still asking questions and hopefully that will become clear in coming days,' Willingham said.
Milan Cherry, Fields' niece, said her aunt didn't have a car and she believed she was walking home when she was shot. She described Fields as uplifting and a source of strength for their family in hard times.
The killer 'was just going around, murdering people for no reason,' she said. "Now we have to bury our aunt because of this fool."' [Source]
These suspects in Tulsa must have been reading the National Review, lately. They have a writer over there who doesn't think much of you Negroes. But of course this is nothing new for conservatives. The writer's name is John Derbyshire, and this is what Think Progress reported on what wrote:
"Popular conservative columnist and National Review writer John Derbyshire topped all of his previous racistscreeds (and sexist rants) today by posting a long breakdown of all of the important lessons he has taught his children about race ? and he?s outdone his own racism with this one.
Derbyshire wrote the column in the second person, as a list of lessons to his kids about race. The lessons are his response to ?the talk? that black parents have with their children ? conversations they are forced to have because of real, persistent racism. After spending a few minutes bemoaning that he can?t say a racist slur (?What you must call ?the ?N? word? is used freely among blacks but is taboo to nonblacks?) and opining on the hostility he believes all black people feel toward white people like himself (though he says he isn?t white before calling himself white several times), he cuts to the heart of his lessons for his children:
(10a) Avoid concentrations of blacks not all known to you personally. While they are not included in the quote above, Derbyshire peppers the post with links to news stories of crimes, a few random videos, and his own columns. The only ?fact? included in the entire piece (and just a small image, at that) is from the offensive book The Bell Curve. Every other hateful, racist claim is based on a one-off story or his own foregone conclusions." [More] [h/t Mike]
(10b) Stay out of heavily black neighborhoods.
(10c) If planning a trip to a beach or amusement park at some date, find out whether it is likely to be swamped with blacks on that date (neglect of that one got me the closest I have ever gotten to death by gunshot).
(10d) Do not attend events likely to draw a lot of blacks.
(10e) If you are at some public event at which the number of blacks suddenly swells, leave as quickly as possible.
(10f) Do not settle in a district or municipality run by black politicians.
(10g) Before voting for a black politician, scrutinize his/her character much more carefully than you would a white.
(10h) Do not act the Good Samaritan to blacks in apparent distress, e.g., on the highway.
(10i) If accosted by a strange black in the street, smile and say something polite but keep moving.
(11) The mean intelligence of blacks is much lower than for whites. The least intelligent ten percent of whites have IQs below 81; forty percent of blacks have IQs that low. Only one black in six is more intelligent than the average white; five whites out of six are more intelligent than the average black. These differences show in every test of general cognitive ability that anyone, of any race or nationality, has yet been able to devise. They are reflected in countless everyday situations. ?Life is an IQ test.?
I wrote the proudly white, but "certainly not racist," Trayvon Martin protest protester, Marion Levinson "John" King, III, an email apologizing for your mean, race-traitorish comments. I also invited him to the compound to watch gladiator movies and make plaster of paris casts of our little soldiers. He declined. Apparently, you hurt the self-described individual of European descent's feelings so badly, he wants to shoot me with his absolutely not racist 9mm "bitch ass 'nigger eater.'"
My email appears below. His response follows.
John KingHis response (and yes, like many good patriots, he believes paragraphs are Jewish Negro plot to take our white women):
Proudly White Individual of European Descent
RaHoWa Fellow, The White Voice
Dear Mr. King,
I apologize for any commenters who may have called you a chubby, badly dressed, ignorant, inbred, mouth-breathing, racist, homophobic, nazi anti-Semite.
Clearly, you are not an anti-Semite in that you agree with the Christian Identity belief that Jews are not a Semitic people. I too believe that Jesus wasn't Jewish. He was from Newcastle. I think the confusion comes from the fact that Our Savior was a Jute, one of the three Germanic tribes, along with the Angles and Saxons, that ruled Britain during Roman times. It's not surprising that people would confuse Jutes with Jews; the words sound very similar.
I now also understand that you are a victim of Nazism rather than a perpetrator of it. The photos on your wife's Facebook page clearly show that you are being persecuted by "Yard Nazis" who, as she says are "calling the city on us" about the old furniture and other refuse you have strewn about your property. That's un-American. If having old couches, refrigerators, and auto parts piled up in a yard is a crime, then I guess every patriot in our nation is a criminal.
I'd like to make up for the rudeness of my commenters by inviting you out to my compound during the first week of June . My wife, OfJoshua. will be attending some kind of worship conference in Vegas with my neighbor, Mr. Garcia, so I'll be batching it.
It'll be fun. We can dress up in gladiator outfits and drink beer and eat pork rinds and Frito pie while we watch my extensive collection of gladiator movies. I even have a pair of powder blue leotards that would look dreamy on you.
I'd also like to do you the honor of making a plaster cast of your little soldier to place next to mine in the Glorious Christian Conservative Cultural Revolution's Grand Display Case of Patriot Units. You'll love it. I only use the whitest plaster of paris.
Please say yes.
Gen. JC Christian
p.s. Please, please, please stop writing angry letters to my advertisers. I'll need cash for beer, chili, Fritos, Vaseline, and plaster of paris.
From: firstname.lastname@example.orgI wrote him back. If he responds, I'll post both.

Subject: What apology?
What are you trying to tell me? I'll include this letter when I call your advertizers, [sic] that "Full Sail" univeristy [sic] and ITT Tech. Boy, now that's Ivy League material there. I was actually planning on giving up my attempt to contact your advertizers [sic] as I started my "crusade" after closing time one afternoon. But I still have their numbers on a piece of paper in my garbage can, which I have now retrieved. Rather than apologize you have just continued to taunt me with all the "racism" BS. You are only saying this because I'm white and it's obvious that "antiracism" is a code word for "anti-White" I'm uncertain what the Jews actually are, but I will go on record as saying no serious "god" chose them for anything. The Angles, Saxons and Jutes did not arrive in what we now call England until 411 AD which was after the Roman retreat from the island. You fail to understand that I am not a Christian, not a Conservative and not a patriot of this country. Nor am I known for screaming "Rohowa" (actually it's Rahowa). I am just a White man who wants a future for his children and other White children. I'm not asking for a lot. I see you've been doing some personal research. I want to tell you that I have a bullet with your name on it. So, when you get brave enough to come to my "King Plantation" unannounced just beware. Indiana is a "Castle Doctrine" state. That means that once you break into my house I don't have to retreat. Even if you're black they'll be no "Trayvon, Trayvon, how can the world go on without you?" marches around here. When I'm holding my 9mm (it's a bitch ass "nigger eater") the one thing I do not want to say is "Sorry I missed you." If you are non-White or Jew I can totally unterstand [sic] your talmudic [sic] hate of me. "It's Amalek!" But if you are a garden variety White person I'm wondering what your major malfunction is. I'm not a psychiatrist, so I can't really help you. But nationwide 90% of the yearly interracial crimes are committed by blacks and against whites. They amount to app. 1.54 million. Perhaps if a nigger beats the living shit out of your for your Air Jordans, maybe he'll knock some sense into you. Let's hope so.
As far as you pathetic advertizers [sic] go, you were stupid to contact me. I had already moved past this issue but you just reignited it with a can of gasoline. I guess now with your silly little missive I guess I can tell them that you have retaliated against me.

Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) on Sunday ripped the Republican Party for "turning back the clock for women."
During an interview on CNN, host Candy Crowley asked asked the congresswoman from Florida if it was unfair to call GOP policies a "war on women."
"The policies that have come out of the Republican Party, saying that we should have a debate again over contraception and whether we should have access to it and it should be affordable, saying that -- like Gov. Scott Walker in Wisconsin, you know, he tried to quietly repeal the Equal Pay Act," Wasserman Schultz noted. "Women aren't going to stand for that. Governor Walker just signed a bill that repeals the equal pay law they had in Wisconsin for years."
She continued: "You have Republicans who have engaged themselves for the entire Congress trying to redefine rape as only being forcible rape, defunding Planned Parenthood and family planning programs. The Lilly Ledbetter Act -- the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act put teeth behind the notion that women deserve equal pay for equal work. That was the first bill the President Obama signed into law. The overwhelming majority of Republicans serving in Congress voted against it."
"So, the focus of the Republican Party on turning back the clock for women really is something that is unacceptable and shows how callous and insensitive they are towards women's priorities."
Get your war on. (wikimedia)
Well, for one thing, if the Democrats said we had a war on caterpillars, and mainstream media outlet talked about the fact that Republicans have a war on caterpillars, then we have problems with caterpillars. ? RNC Chairman Reince PreibusThe Republican Party knows that its war on women is turning into a huge electoral disaster. The proof is in the polling: Obama's previous slight lead among women has mushroomed into a significant double-digit lead. Even more troublesome for Mitt Romney and down-ballot Republicans, this lead is especially prominent in the swing states that Romney would need to win to have a realistic chance at ousting President Obama from the White House.
The Republican Party's solution?as expressed by its best-named chairman in history, Reince Preibus?is to claim that its war on women is a figment of the imagination: a sinister and fictional conspiracy dreamed up by Democrats and further propagated by a compliant mainstream media. It's a rare example of the conservative movement being outflanked not just on facts, but on messaging: Republican policies are being woven into a consistent, well-messaged, easy-to-articulate narrative that is causing significant damage to their electoral prospects. Chairman Preibus' exasperation led him to do something rash: in his attempt to accentuate the supposed fabrication he claims the war on women to be, he seemed to dismiss women in the process by comparing them to insects. Specifically, the larval form of the lepidoptera order.
Now, it would be a major surprise to everyone who has ever complained about Democratic messaging and lack of media accountability that Democratic activists would be capable of fabricating a story out of thin air and have the so-called traditional media regurgitate it wholesale with no accountability. Conservative ideologues find themselves quite capable of doing exactly this, in no small part because they have their own entire propaganda network waiting to spread disinformation. Hence, an entire swath of the country now "knows" that the Affordable Care Act will somehow create death panels, or that President Obama is a Muslim, or that he was not born in the United States.
If you remove all the vowels from the name of RNC Chairman Reince Preibus, you are left with something amazingly coincidental: "RNC PR BS." And not surprisingly, that's exactly what his assertion regarding the substance of his party's war on women comes down to. So in order to remind Chairman Preibus about why media figures and women's rights activists are claiming that his party is waging a so-called war on women, we should perhaps provide a helpful illustration of what a war on caterpillars might look like in this context.
None of these things, of course, ever happened. Consequently, no matter how much the DNC attempted to construct a Republican war on caterpillars out of thin air, it would have been impossible: there isn't one. But Rush Limbaugh did spend three days viciously attacking Sandra Fluke for daring to speak out on contraception. a county commissioner in North Carolina did say that it's all the womenfolk's fault for having all this sex (no word on whom they're having it with). Mitt Romney did say that he wants to get rid of Planned Parenthood, where so many women of lesser means go to for health services since they can't afford to go anywhere else. Several states have indeed pushed rape-by-wand bills for women seeking access to legal medical services. And yes, a Republican legislator in Georgia compared women to farm animals in suggesting that since pigs often have to carry dead fetuses to term, women should too.
Chairman Preibus claims that his party's war on women is fictional. But if it's not a war on women, then what is it exactly? Inquiring minds want to know.
RIP Mike Wallace ? I don?t know if it?s completely accurate to say that he invented investigative TV journalism, but if he didn?t, he came pretty close.
There are probably hundreds or maybe thousands of clips out there of interviews he conducted (perhaps the most famous ? or infamous, depending on your point of view ? broadcasts he was responsible for had to do with Gen. Westmoreland and the Vietnam War, Jeffrey Wigand and the Brown and Williamson stuff, and Khomeni and the quote from Sadat rightly calling the Iranian thug a ?lunatic?). For no particular reason, though, here is a clip from a 1964 interview with Malcolm X (as I heard this, I was struck a bit by the parallels ? as I see them, anyway ? between the ?Negro community? and the ?Occupy? movement).
I may feature other Wallace clips over the coming days, depending on what I can track down. As a country, we?re better for his efforts at ?afflicting the comfortable,? as the saying goes (and Malcolm X was referring to former NYC Police Commissioner Michael Murphy, by the way)?
?and Happy Easter to everyone observing the holiday.
