As we've discussed already, Bill O'Reilly is pissed that people are calling him a hypocrite for bashing Jamie Lynn Spear's parents for having their teen daughter knocked up, but refuses to do the same to Sarah Palin.
The latest to point out that hypocrisy was the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Cynthia Tucker. As a result, O'Reilly sent a camera crew to ambush her at her home:
As Tucker stopped outside her house to pick up her mail, the Fox camera crew emerged out of a car parked across the street and advanced on her, yelling questions. At this point, I’ll turn the account over to Tucker for the blow-by-blow account, as she recalls it:
O’Reilly guy: “Cynthia, in your column, were you comparing Bristol Palin to Jamie Lynn Spears?”
Cynthia: “In my column, I was criticizing Bill O”Reilly. And I stand by that.”
O’Reilly guy: “Bill pointed out that Jamie Lynn Spears was running around unsupervised. You know that. So you were saying that Bristol Palin was running around unsupervised.”
Cynthia: “If I said that, read that part. You’re holding the column (in your hand). Read where I said Bristol Palin was running around unsupervised.”
O’Reilly guy: “You inferred it.”
Cynthia: “I inferred O’Reilly is a hypocrite. And I stand by that. Good day, gentlemen. I’m going inside to finish my Saturday chores.”
Does O'Reilly really want to maintain that the difference between Jamie Lynn and Bristol is that the Spears daughter was "running around unsupervised"? Because if O'Reilly insists that Bristol, to the contrary, was supervised, then how exactly did she get knocked up? It would follow that ... yeah. Gross. And somehow, I really, really doubt that's what happened.
O'Reilly is a hypocrite, he's been busted as such, and rather than let it go and ignore, he keeps digging his hole deeper.

Add to myYahoo! Not quite the maverick any more, is he. From Huff Post we find that McCain is peddling another smear against Obama - and big surprise, this one's a lie too (interestingly, this comes just one day after McCain criticized Obama for suggesting that he and the Republicans like to peddle anti-Obama smears - did you get that, they criticized Obama for criticizing THEIR smears, classic). McCain is an old hand at smears. He used to be against them, now he's for them. Like when he keeps suggesting that Obama is unpatriotic and care about the troops - McCain seems to think an awful lot of himself when it comes to patriotism and love of country. It's almost as if John McCain thinks he's the only one who loves America, or he thinks he loves her way more than any one else does. I'm not sure Americans are looking to hire someone who thinks so highly of themselves that they run around judging everyone else's patriotism all the time. It's one thing to be a hero, and quite another to think yourself the hero.

Add to myYahoo! The religious right's love affair with Sarah Palin didn't prevent Leslee Unruh, president of the National Abstinence Clearinghouse, from questioning whether Palin has strayed too far from a centerpiece of religious right orthodoxy.
John McCain and the GOP platform say children should be taught that abstinence until marriage is the only safe way to avoid pregnancy and disease. Palin's position is less clear. In a widely quoted 2006 survey she answered during her gubernatorial campaign, Palin said she supported abstinence-until-marriage programs. But weeks later, she proclaimed herself "pro-contraception" and said condoms ought to be discussed in schools alongside abstinence.
Unruh hasn't exactly accused Palin of flip-flopping on abstinence-only education, but she criticized Palin for suggesting that kids should learn that contraception is an alternative way to avoid pregnancy. Unruh said Palin's mixed message is "disjointed" and unclear and urged Palin to get on board with a "clear and concise" abstinence-only philosophy. Two days later, perhaps having received a "shut up" memo, Unruh dismissed Palin's pro-contraception comments as "old" and said she supports Palin in every way. Yet Palin's spokesperson says Palin stands by her remarks. [more...]
McCain's campaign did not respond to questions about whether Palin's position is inconsistent with his.
The McCain campaign continues its insistence that teaching kids how to prevent pregnancy encourages them to become sexually active. As if they need encouragement.

Add to myYahoo!California Senator Barbara Boxer practices political aikido on John McCain's acceptance speech:
Last night at the Republican National Convention, John McCain used the word "fight" more than 40 times in his speech.
In the 16 years that we have served together in the Senate, I have seen John McCain fight.
I have seen him fight against raising the federal minimum wage 14 times.
I have seen him fight against making sure that women earn equal pay for equal work.
I have seen him fight against a women's right to choose so consistently that he received a zero percent vote rating from pro-choice organizations.
I have seen him fight against helping families gain access to birth control.
I have seen him fight against Social Security, even going so far as to call its current funding system "an absolute disgrace."
And I saw him fight against the new GI Bill of Rights until it became politically untenable for him to do so.
John McCain voted with President Bush 95 percent of the time in 2007 and 100 percent of the time in 2008 -- that's no maverick.
We do have two real fighters for change in this election -- their names are Barack Obama and Joe Biden.
If you haven't yet seen Senator Biden's most recent proof of Boxer's statement, click here.
