7:55 PM PT: NBC News says it will not call Ohio tonight.

7:58 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Reiterating something that closed out thread #10: former Democratic Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy will not be returning to Congress in 2012. In the heavily Democratic OH-03, former state legislator Joyce Beatty has defeated Kilroy, who conceded defeat earlier tonight.

Tuesday Stuff

Yes, I know, Flush Limbore blah blah blah, but if nothing else, this is a diversion from the fact that life forms in at least three states (maybe a fourth?) think that Former Senator Frothy Man-On-Dog Mixture is someone qualified to be president (and here is the latest on Rush?s sponsors - the good folks at J.C. Penney have brought the count to 33 who have dropped that blubbering OxyContin addict)...

...and the answer to the question is no ? I don?t just put up music videos when somebody dies any more (in the real world, I mean).

7:38 PM PT (Jed Lewison): Paraphrasing Alex Castellanos, a former Romney adviser, on CNN: Tonight is scary for MItt Romney. Rick Santorum will be able to say tomorrow "You outspent me 3:1 in Tennessee, you outspent me 4:1 in Ohio, and look at what happened."

7:40 PM PT (Steve Singiser): With the presidential race in Ohio still very much in doubt (Santorum leads by just 6900 votes with 72 percent reporting), here is a quick downballot note in the Buckeye State. In the GOP Senate primary in Ohio, Josh Mandel will certainly win. But, given the some dude status of his opponents, and the hype that has accompanied his campaign, Mandel is kind of underwhelming. He is winning with 62 percent of the vote, at last check.

7:49 PM PT (Steve Singiser): With about half of the precincts now reporting, we could be on the cusp of an upset downballot in Ohio. In OH-02, Brad Wenstrup now leads incumbent "Mean" Jean Schmidt by a 48-44 margin. Still a lot of votes to tally, but this is another race to keep a close eye on.

7:55 PM PT (Steve Singiser): And we have our first confirmed result downballot of the night. In the Columbus-based OH-03 (the newly created Democratic vote sink) former Rep. Mary Jo Kilroy has conceded to former state legislator Joyce Beatty. With 80 percent of precincts in, Beatty held a 38-35 lead over Kilroy. Beatty is heavily favored over Republican businessman Chris Long in November.

Super Tuesday Gets Ugly

**updated** Why is this guy smiling? It’s not because it’s been a good night for Mitt Romney. But a few minutes ago, CNN reported Mitt Romney just pulled ahead of the guy who didn’t even file the right papers to compete in Ohio.[...]

Results: AK, GA, ID, MA, ND, OH, OK, TN, VT, VA

7:17 PM PT (Jed Lewison): Mitt Romney's Super PAC spent $7.4 million over the past two weeks. Rick Santorum's $1.8 million. (Source.)

7:18 PM PT (David Nir): In OH-03 (D), with 50% reporting, Joyce Beatty is holding on to a 38-35 lead over Mary Jo Kilroy. Incidentally, PPP took an internal recently for Beatty that had the race at 35-34 Kilroy. Certainly captured how tight the race is!

7:21 PM PT (David Nir): 62% now reporting in Ohio, and Santorum is up 38-36 over Romney. But Clermont County, in the Cincy `burbs, still has only reported the early vote.

7:22 PM PT (David Nir): Unsurprisingly, Mitt Romney is out to a comical early lead in Idaho, which is the second most-heavily Mormon state in the nation, at about 27% of the population.

7:29 PM PT (Jed Lewison): It's an epic disaster if Romney loses Ohio. But even if he pulls it out?which is certainly a plausible scenario?tonight is still a bad night for his image. Sure, he might pull out more delegates. But people out east are already going to bed, and the image of Mitt Romney in their heads is the image of a  loser. And when they wake up they'd find out that although he won, it was the narrowest of victories, despite the fact that he outspent Rick Santorum by millions.

7:34 PM PT (Steve Singiser): Looking at those county websites, we are now at 64 percent reporting in OH-09. Both Cuyahoga (Dennis Kucinich's home base) and Lucas (Marcy Kaptur's home base) are reporting more than half of their precincts. And Kaptur's base is more consolidated than Kucinich's. The net result is that Kaptur now leads by double digits (54-42). And ? for those who have been on pins and needles ? Joe the Plumber is still losing to Steven Kraus, but the margin has tightened quite a bit (51-49).

Romney To Speak

Mitt Romney's about to speak tonight. Very curious to hear what he says since so far tonight he's yet to win a major contested primary. My hunch is he just ignores the returns and gives the general election speech.[...]
