So we went to Tea Party July 3 in La Canada Flintridge, a suburb about 20 miles from Hollywood in the foothills of the Angeles Crest, at an estate used for weddings and other events. It was, like all Tea Parties, a mix of fed-up-with-tax-folks,[...]

So if she’s starting to run, it will be as the same reporter-avoiding, generalization-spouting underachiever that she was last time around.
Now we know she not only doesn’t have the concentration to read a policy paper, she can’t focus long enough to finish the job she was hired to do.
On Friday, Palin said that finishing out her term would be just too easy. “Many just accept that lame-duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck and ‘milk it.’ I’m not putting Alaska through that,” she said.
Apparently, she’s going to put the rest of us through it instead.

Add to myYahoo!Photos opportunities with Blacks
is not proof of genuine concern.
After John Edwards lost his bid for the presidency and vice presidency in 2004, he heightened his activities aimed at creating the impression that he was concerned with povery, particularly among Blacks. As I said at the time, this was a foolish political calculation since there aren't enough Black poor people put a president in the white house, and everything he did for Blacks and the poor would hurt him the white middle class and independents during a general election.
Although I couldn't prove it conclusively, I also strongly suspected that John Edwards' sudden concern for the poor was ruse to endear him to paternalistic "progressive" whites and Blacks. Now, there's a little more evidence that Edwards was always a lying hypocrite when he spoke of his "concern" for the poor.
In the fall of 2005, John Edwards helped start a College for Everyone pilot program at Greene Central High School in Snow Hill, North Carolina. The program was launched by the Center for Promise and Opportunity Foundation, a North Carolina nonprofit organization. Located in rural, eastern North Carolina, Greene County's income and education attainment are lower than North Carolina averages. Its school system has an above-average percentage of students who are economically disadvantaged.
The College for Everyone program is based on a proposal that Edwards first talked about in his 2004 presidential campaign. John Edwards.Com
This is just one example of a program that suddenly occured to Edwards on the campaign trail, but that he not bothered to try to advance when he was a US senator.
So what happened to above mentioned tuition charity after John Edwards' campaign was shut down?
After Edwards admitted the affair, his biggest financial supporter, Texas trial lawyer Fred Baron, told the Dallas Morning News that he had paid Hunter so she could get "out of North Carolina" and "into a stable place" in California, where she and her baby moved into a Santa Barbara home worth $3 million. Baron died two months later.

In the years when Edwards was merely a potential presidential candidate, running on his valid record as a successful pro-consumer trial lawyer, I was favorably impressed with him. When he suddenly announced that saving the poor was the "mission of his lifetime", I began to strongly resent the opportunism of a rich white man trying to use Blacks' poverty as his ticket to the White House. I resented the "white man's burden".
If ending poverty were "the mission of Edwards' life", then the implosion of his presidential campaign wouldn't have prevented him from continuing his life's mission. Instead, John Edwards closed down the scholarships for Blacks program as soon as it was clear that it couldn't be used as a political stepping stone. Blacks and poverty were never anything more than an elaborate advertising campaign for Edwards political aspirations.
Unlike a lot of whites and Black bloggers, I wasn't impressed that Edwards "talked about poverty" because I knew he was like a man who talks to a woman about love as he tries to remove her bra. In fact, the more Edwards talked about poverty as the center of his soul, the more incredible I found his anti-poverty schtick.
This is why I didn't need to hear Barack Obama "talk about" povery and was more impressed with his reference to a "quiet riot". Even if they both were liars, I'd prefer to be lied to by the first Black president than the 44th consecutive white male one.

While the rest of the Morning Joe crew was espousing their new found love for Helen Thomas and former MSNBC reporter Chip Reid, Carl Bernstein managed to get Chuck Todd's back hair up by reminding him that the White House press corps yelling at the Press Secretary is not exactly what anyone should consider real journalism.
While I whole heartedly agree with Todd that it is important to hold these people accountable, Bernstein's points about this entire ordeal looking petty, and about where real journalism happens, which is reporters getting out there and knocking on doors, and digging into whether someone's actually telling you the truth or not, fact checking what you're told, etc. is what should be considered actual journalism is valid as well, and he managed to make Todd look petty while making it.
Todd tried to defend what the White House press corps does on a daily basis, and not very well IMO. When you're making excuses for asking Michael Jackson questions you've already lost the argument Bernstein was trying to make.
I want to know where these birds were with their love of Helen Thomas when the Bush White House refused to call on her for the better part of eight years? I'd also like to know if they're going to continue to support her if she asks some tough questions on things like these bank bailouts, spying on everyone which hasn't stopped, or these mindless wars that we're still sending our troops off to fight and die in. Is that going to make the "news" cycle on Morning Joe? Somehow, I doubt it.
