The Other Winner in Iowa Why That Result Should
be More Important to Democrats

Last nights historic election will be remembered for one reason: Obama. My intention here is not to demean him in any way, and the fact that the young voters came out like never before is also reassuring to me. However, there was another election last night in Iowa, one that seemingly no one [...]

Bill Moyers Asks; Is Mainstream Media Counting
Kucinich Out

video details and more

Dennis Kucinich - The Real Democrat

copyright ? 2007 Betsy L. Angert.  BeThink.org

On January 4, 2008, Public Broadcasting Services [PBS] Bill Moyers will discuss what most in the press barely acknowledge; the mainstream media is counting Dennis Kucinich out.  Perhaps the truer statement is they do not let him in.  Perchance, if we reflect on what has occurred throughout the Presidential campaign we might realize, the moguls who own the airwaves fear true change.  They trust Ohio Congressman, Dennis Kucinich will actually work for the people, just as he has done throughout his career.>/div>
Corporate magnates do not want the country or the office of the President to be other than it is, profitable for them.  The Big Wigs can control the other candidates, and they do. These tycoons have invested in the top tier candidates.  Money, cash, checks flow to those who promote plans that allow Insurers, Pharmaceuticals, Defense Industrialists, and Private Investors to prosper. Dennis Kucinich and his proposed policies do not benefit the powerbrokers.  Thus, he must be eliminated and indeed, he is.

In Iowa, the Des Moines Register would not allow the Presidential hopeful to take the stage.  The American Association for Retired Persons also blocked his appearance.  As we contemplate the number of times Dennis Kucinich was purposely excluded, we recognize the message we, the American people, receive is manipulated.  The public does not have access to all the Presidential hopefuls.  Only the aspirants financed by the Big Boys and Girls are afforded an opportunity to speak.

Granted, we may have had a glimpse of the extremely qualified Dennis Kucinich.  However, when we did the time to view or listen to the voice of the people was extremely limited.

Pundits and political historians might express that Congressman Kucinich "delivers the Democratic message clarity and conviction"  Presidential hopeful Kucinich might be far ahead in Progressive polls.  Nevertheless, the  potential President, Dennis Kucinich ultimately will be silenced at least on most radio and television stations.

On January 5, 2008, just prior to the New Hampshire primaries, the first actual ballot vote for President, ABC News will host another Democratic discussion,  America will be able to hear and see the candidates, except for  . . .

ABC News Has Excluded Kucinich, Gravel, and Others . . .
In an arbitrary decision that shakes our democracy to its very core, ABC News has set debate criteria that exclude Dennis Kucinich, Mike Gravel, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, and Duncan Hunter from their Saturday debates.  New Hampshire has a recent history of open debates.  As a result of these exclusions the New Hampshire Union Leader newspaper has decided not to co-sponsor the debate.

Many Americans will ask as the one true Progressive hopeful does . . .
"How can you have a debate if you don't have a voice to challenge all the others?"
~ Dennis Kucinich

On January 4, 2008, Bill Moyers offers a rare forum, a chance for the Congressman to speak.  You may wish to tune in.  Moyers offers this introduction.

The 2008 Election; Crashing the Parties?

Presidential nominee Dennis J. Kucinich is a sixth-term Democratic Congressman serving the 10th district of Ohio, which comprises much of western Cleveland and its adjoining suburbs.

First elected to the House of Representatives in 1996, he sits on the Education and Labor Committee and is chairman of the Domestic Policy Subcommittee of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.  A member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, Kucinich previously ran for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2000 and 2004.  Now more than ever, he sees a split in the Democratic constituency and the leaders to which each side is drawn, as he explains to Bill Moyers in his interview:

We have two cultures here.  One which is the emerging culture of information technology that's Internet-based. And the other one is the more conventional TV technology which is coming to a clash. And I think they reflect some political trends in this country that maybe aren't getting too much attention. But they are gonna have an impact.

A short biography of the candidate is also available amidst the program information.  As we peruse the list of associations, affiliations, and ponder what is important to Dennis Kucinich we get a sense of who the man is and why he relates more to the average American than he does to those who sponsor debates . . . or contribute to the other candidates campaigns.
Kucinich served twice as an official U.S. delegate to the U.N. Convention on Climate Change. In 2003, he received the Gandhi Peace Award from Promoting Enduring Peace. Additionally, he has been honored by the Cleveland AFL-CIO, the Sierra Club, the League of Conservation Voters, Friends of the Earth, the Salvation Army, the Human Rights Campaign, Public Citizen for his work in office.

If, upon reflection, you too are concerned by the fact that Americans no longer have a choice, that we can only hear the persons the powerbrokers tell  us are viable, please express your distress.  Click here to join us in flooding ABC with emails and phone calls demanding that all the candidates be included in the televised debates.

(You may also wish to speak to the exclusion of Ron Paul from a Republican debate hosted by Fox News.  If so, please do.  Click here if you wish to tell Fox what you think.)

Thank you for working to take our country back from the party bosses, big money, and corporate media,

Transcripts, Trials, Tribulations . . .

Friday Political Stuff

I certainly don't support him as a candidate, but kudos to the Ron Paul people for taking snark to a whole new level (re: Rudy and his latest bogus campaign ad)...

...and speaking of campaign ads, this is just a reminder that John Edwards is sticking around - we have a ways to go.

Fox Propaganda

As is often the case, it goes without saying that if some other supposedly liberal (but not really) news network had done something similar - like, say, excluding candidate Joe Lieberman from a debate - that there would be much more media outrage. Howie?

Obama, Biden: Clean Break with the Past

Joe Biden's campaign got off to a rocky start last February when he was pummeled for a "gaffe" in describing Barack Obama as "the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that's a storybook, man."

This week, Biden gave up his Presidential hopes as Obama achieved a storybook milestone in American racial history, a black man of blue politics winning a red state with almost all white voters.

In his apology for the remark, Biden had explained, "Barack Obama is probably the most exciting candidate that the Democratic or Republican Party has produced at least since I've been around. And he's fresh. He's new. He's smart. He's insightful. And I really regret that some have taken totally out of context my use of the world 'clean.'"

Obama has proven to be all that and more, and his Iowa victory this week has dispelled any sense of unreality about the possibility that he could be elected the first African-American President this fall.

If he is, it would be smart and insightful of him to ask Joe Biden to be his Secretary of State.
