While writing that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) said during the January 31 Democratic presidential debate that "she opposed the Levin amendment to the 2003 [sic] Iraq war resolution because it would 'subordinate' U.S. decision-making to the United Nations," conservative columnist Robert Novak falsely claimed in his February 4 column that Clinton "made no such claim until her presidential campaign." In fact, the same day Clinton voted on Sen. Carl Levin's (D-MI) proposed amendment to the[...]

Add to myYahoo! On the February 1 broadcast of The Savage Nation, host Michael Savage stated that the Democratic presidential nominating contest "is, or can be seen as, the first affirmative action election in American history." Referring to Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) and Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), Savage continued: "We have a woman and a multi-ethnic man running for office on the Democrat side. Is this not akin to an affirmative action election? Isn't that why the[...]

Add to myYahoo! How do you trump all the horrible nominations that Bush has made so far? How about by leaving a new board on privacy and civil liberties completely empty?
The Bush administration has failed to nominate any candidates to a newly empowered privacy and civil-liberties commission. This leaves the board without any members, even as Congress prepares to give the Bush administration extraordinary powers to wiretap without warrants inside the United States.
This is the board that is supposed to determine if the TSA is handling the "no-fly list" correctly. It's supposed to help determine if the administration is staying within the bounds of FISA.
The previous incarnation of the board had turned a blind eye to everything the Bush administration has done to erode privacy, but the new rules were supposed to make the board more independent. And I suppose nobody is as independent as nobody. At least the outgoing members know how to protect their own privacy.
The privacy board ignored repeated requests for comment for this story, and a White House press staffer did not provide information by late Friday about the status of nominees to the board.

Add to myYahoo! With the presidential primaries reaching a climax on February 5th, I feel at this point that I am paddling in circles within the Sea of Insanity.
