Michele Bachmann Offers Nancy Pelosi a House
Call, Plus What Appears to Be a Free HR 3962 Enema

BUZZFLASH NEWS ANALYSIS
by Meg White

Now that she knows the Capitol so well, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) has decided she's going to use her spare time on the Hill to give tours. Along with a press conference this coming Thursday, she's inviting all of Sean Hannity's minions viewers to join her in a fun-filled field trip where she'll help them find their representatives (and more importantly, "the whites of their eyes") and talk to them about healthcare reform.

"We can walk together through Cannon, Longworth, Rayburn, walk through the capitol, sit in the gallery," Bachmann promised under a banner scrolling "Universal Nightmare" last Friday on Hannity's America. "I'm asking people to come to Washington D.C. by the carload, and next Thursday at noon I'll be at a press conference on the steps of the Capitol. I'd love to have every one of your viewers join me so we can go up and down through the halls, find members of Congress, look at the whites of their eyes and say, 'Don't take away my healthcare!'"

Awesome, I love guided tours! I'm not sure what this all has to do with healthcare, though. Maybe these friendly constituents are offering free glaucoma exams to their hard-working representatives?

Hmm. Maybe Bachmann is just trying to find a good way to spend all that extra time she has since she clearly isn't planning on reading the healthcare bill before she votes against it? Because there's most assuredly not enough time to do that (except there is, but whatever).

Well, see for yourself (the D.C. invite comes in at about the five-minute mark of this nine-minute interview, and the emphasis is mine):

GOP's Health Insurance Reform 'Ideas' Don't
Include Covering Pre-Existing Conditions

BUZZFLASH NEWS ALERT

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office released the following on the GOP's proposed alternative to Democratic health care reform legislation:

As the House moves forward with the Affordable Health Care for America Act ? comprehensive health insurance reform to protect consumers, hold insurance companies accountable, rein in health care costs, reduce the deficit, and cover 36 million uninsured Americans ? and after more than 10 months of national debate on the importance of health reform, Congressional Republicans are talking about the 'ideas' in their yet to be unveiled proposal.

The Wall Street Journal headline tells the story: "GOP Health Bill Gives Insurers More Leeway"

"A House Republican health-care bill wouldn't seek to prevent health-insurance companies from denying sick people insurance, Minority Leader John Boehner said Monday." [Wall Street Journal, "GOP Health Bill Gives Insurers More Leeway," 11/2/09]

That's right -? Republicans would do nothing to stop health insurance companies from cherry-picking the healthiest of individuals for coverage at the expense of others. Failure to reform this critical element of the health insurance system will leave millions of Americans ineligible for coverage and will continue the crisis facing families across the country.

The Republicans' Preemptive Claims of Fraud

Who needs any stinking evidence?

Another election, another boatload of evidence-free Republican claims of voter fraud...

Marshaling the forces of the National Review, the Wall Street Journal, Glenn Beck and of course, Fixed News, the GOP is sounding the alarm that ... uh ... something might be wrong. If they lose.

Expect the rallying cry to be, in no particular order, brown people, dead people, and, ACORN!

Following Rep. Foxx's lead, media conservatives
compare health care reform to terrorism

On November 2, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) said on the House floor regarding health care legislation before the House: "I believe we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country." Following Foxx's statement, Fox News' Glenn Beck compared health care reform to 9-11, and talk radio host Neal Boortz and the Fox Nation promoted Foxx's attack.

Foxx: Health care bill more dangerous "than any terrorist right now"

Speaking on the House floor on November 2, Foxx said:

FOXX: Thank you, Madame Speaker. Everywhere I go in my district, people tell me they are frightened. They are frightened about what is happening in this country. They fear for the future of our country. What they're talking about is that they fear for our freedoms, and they fear for the principles that formed this country and have always been the basis on which we've operated. I share that fear, and I believe they should be fearful. And I believe the greatest fear that we all should have to our freedom comes from this room, this very room, and what may happen later this week in terms of a tax increase bill masquerading as a health care bill. I believe we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country.

Right-wing media echo Foxx's comparison

Beck: Fighting health care reform like "stand[ing] in line and tak[ing] our shoes off before the plane actually hits the tower." On the November 2 edition of his Fox News program, Glenn Beck drew parallels between health care reform and 9-11:

BECK: Conservatives are awake -- 9-12ers are willing to do the hard things. We know what this means. We're taking time out of our busy lives, taking time away from their families. They're attending town hall meetings. Do you think they want to do that?

They are calling their representatives. How many times do we have to be yelled at by your people in Washington? They are reading 2,000-page health care bills on the weekend. The 9-12ers are willing to stand in line and take our shoes off before the plane actually hits the tower.

Boortz: "Rep. Virginia Foxx has it right." In a November 3 update to his Twitter page, talk radio host Neal Boortz wrote: "Va. [sic] Rep. Virginia Foxx has it right. ObamaCare does present a greater threat than Islamic terrorism."

Fox Nation promotes Foxx's statement. On November 3, Fox Nation linked to a video of Foxx's comments under the headline: "Rep. Foxx Fears 'Obamacare' More Than Terrorist Attack."

Comparing Obama to terrorists is not new

Limbaugh: Obama worse than Al Qaeda. Appearing on Fox News' Hannity earlier this year, radio host Rush Limbaugh said of President Obama: "If Al Qaeda wants to demolish the America we know and love, they better hurry, because Obama's beating them to it." Limbaugh went on to say that Obama is "beating" Al Qaeda to "demolish[ing] the America we know and love." In April, Limbaugh explained how an unnamed friend of his believes "Obama is terrorist attack number 2; Obama is the follow-up to 9-11."

What could have been - Sarah Palin's Lost Victory
Speech

It scares me just to type Palin and victory speech in the same sentence. A new book called "Sarah from Alaska" has the text from the would-be victory speech. It also includes the concession speech she would have given had John McCain not turned the lights out on her.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have the distinct privilege of being the first to introduce him as the President-elect of United States of America—John S. McCain.

United by Change, Divided by Reform

FOX News' McCarthyite communist witch hunt
against White House continues with union head Andy Stern

Andy Stern once said "workers of the world unite." That, according to FOX News' Glenn Beck, makes him a communist and a socialist. Beck is unbalanced, to be sure, but he's an increasingly powerful voice in the Republican party. The Republican party is in serious trouble. They have no real political leaders. So the void is being filled by half-wit extremists like Beck and Palin and Limbaugh.
