Reward Yourself For Voting for a Maverick, With a
Maverick

I understand places like Starbucks and Ben and Jerry’s and the like are rewarding folks for performing their civil duty by voting. Those are likely for the latte and crunchy granola crowd, I suppose, as each firm leans a bit to the left. But now we’ve got a company ready to reward voters with the Maverick, a sex toy. I suppose the idea here is to reward voters for voting for McCain, but they’re not saying that. I just figure the company, Babeland, is rewarding Republicans for their hypocrisy on sexual issues, or something like that. From MSNBC.com:

Just when you thought it was safe to focus on the issues in this historic election season, a chain of sex toy shops has joined retailers, restaurateurs and other businesses across the nation in the time-honored tradition of rewarding Americans who go to the polls.

Babeland, with stores in New York, Los Angeles and Seattle, is offering a pair of self-gratifying incentives for voters who present their registration cards, ballot stubs or ?word of honor? that they voted next Tuesday.

The rewards are no-so-subtle reminders of this year?s campaign rhetoric. For men, it?s the ?Maverick,? a “sleeve” for self-pleasuring. According to a press release, ?He?s always there to lend a hand, he works for every man, and he bucks the status quo.? Women can choose the ?Silver Bullet? mini-vibrator, which is ?a magical solution to difficult problems? and ?a great stress-reliever during these troubled economic times!? The promotion lasts through Nov. 11.

Babeland spokeswoman Pamela Doan told msnbc.com in an interview that the promotion is a first for the company, which she describes as ?a sex-positive, women-friendly retailer for sex toys and accessories.?

Although the company is relying on press releases and bloggers to get the word out, ?We?re expecting a good response,? Doan said. ?Both of these toys are very popular. The Maverick retails for $20 and the Silver Bullet retails for $15. It?s a good reward.?

As a blogger, they’ve got my eye, and they’ve got my promotion. Hey, I know not many Republicans read this web site, so there’s not many Republicans who will go out and vote for the reward of a plastic vagina named “Maverick,” at least not because of me. Still, if I was an enterprising research-oriented sort, I might go over there to redstate or to some other Republican gathering place to see how they are slobbering about this special offer. Maybe they will think this will put John McCain over the top.

Umm, there’s enough innuendo and double entendre to go around here. Let’s hear it.

States leading in turned-in ballots

North Carolina has 42% of its ballots in already, but Oregon - because of its ballot-by-mail system - has 54% in as of this morning, and 61% of all Democrats.

THE STORY OF THE STATES.

Patrick Ruffini has built a cool map using recent polling averages to show the state-by-state swing towards Obama since 2004. Deeper shades of blue denote a heavier, pro-Democratic shift in the vote:To give you an idea of the scale, a light blue state[...]

FOX can't decide how to spin the polls...

...so they split the difference and spin them both ways, saying that as Obama's lead widens, the polls are narrowing. (Via Stand Strong.)

Get ready for the right's post-election
delegitimization drive

video details and more

After Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, it was common for right-wingers to argue that he wasn't elected "legitimately" because he'd won with less than 50 percent of the vote, thanks to Ross Perot.

Of course, you didn't hear that much after 2000, when the future Worst President in History effectively stole the White House without even winning the popular vote.

Now that they're on the verge of getting an ass-kicking of historic proportions, they're warming up that familiar refrain.

The Instaputz cleared his throat today with a numbingly dumb NY Post piece titled "Stealing an Election? Obama's Dubious Allies". John Fund also held forth in Politico at length about how, yes, those falsified voter-registration form can in fact turn into real votes.

Well, yes, it is possible for fake registrations to be used for actual votes -- but to do so takes a large number of hoops to jump through on an individual basis. And it's what you call a low-reward crime; there isn't much incentive for large numbers of people to actually jump through all these hoops.

Fact is, the vast majority of fake registrations are winnowed out before Election Day. And if fake voters actually do make it to the polls, their numbers will be so small as to be inconsequential.

No, the main way to commit voting fraud on a massive scale on the registration level is to sign people up for the election -- and then throw out their registrations if they're from the opposite party. Who's been doing that? Republicans.

You can also run massive voter-purge operations and voter-caging schemes that rob citizens of their legitimate voting rights. Republicans have been doing that too.

Facts don't matter to people like the Putz and Fund, though. They're only interested in propagating right-wing bullshit. These guys are setting the table for after Tuesday.

We can count, I'm sure, on four years of hearing how Obama stole this election. After all, the one thing they can't stand is to admit they actually got their asses kicked.

Bill Kristol says they'll greet the news with "with our usual resolute stoicism or cheerful fatalism."

Yeah, right, Let's not forget their usual conspiracism and hysterics, either. Because that's what we're already getting.
