Barack Obama's grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, died after battling cancer just one day shy of seeing her grandson make it to the White House. She was 86 years old.

He did the right thing to visit her, even as it took him off the campaign trail. Dunham was "inundated" with well wishes from strangers after that visit. Obama's post-election schedule is still up in the air.

Condolences to the Obama family.

This Is What Desperation Smells Like

If it wasn't so pitiful, it would be funny. On the day before the election, the California Republican Party has filed a complaint against Barack Obama and his campaign:

Obama for America violated federal law by converting its campaign funds to Senator Obama's personal use. Senator Obama recently traveled to Hawaii to visit his sick grandmother...Therefore, the Obama Campaign violated the FEC's ban on "personal use" of campaign funds when it paid over $100,000 for the Campaign's charter to fly to Hawaii without obtaining reimbursement from Senator Obama.

Comedy. Did John "Thank God My Wife Owns A Jet" McCain, reimburse anyone after he "suspended" his campaign, yet continued to travel? Did he reimburse anyone for the weekend jaunts to his ranch to wait for his cell phone tower? Is this really the road the GOP wants to go down?

I love the smell of desperation in the morning. It smells like...victory.

We Americans have heard Bush give advice to Americans in troubled times by telling citizens to "go shopping." Taking that advice when it comes to selecting a candidate to take this nation into the future may not be a bad idea. Canned Goods vs Fresh Produce. Most of us start selecting canned goods by checking the dates, then by reading the labels. The McCain and Palin label does not have the ingredients on it, they only spout lies and innuendos about what they want you to think the Obama label has on it.

Barack Obama and his sister Maya Soetoro-Ng have released this statement:

It is with great sadness that we announce that our grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, has died peacefully after a battle with cancer. She was the cornerstone of our family, and a woman of extraordinary accomplishment, strength, and humility. She was the person who encouraged and allowed us to take chances. She was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and left this world with the knowledge that her impact on all of us was meaningful and enduring. Our debt to her is beyond measure.
Our family wants to thank all of those who sent flowers, cards, well-wishes, and prayers during this difficult time. It brought our grandmother and us great comfort. Our grandmother was a private woman, and we will respect her wish for a small private ceremony to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to any worthy organization in search of a cure for cancer.

Pollster.com, high sensitivity, shows essentially the same thing:

The six polls out today show Obama between 51-54, and McCain between 42-46. You make the call.
