It's the final days of the campaign, and Lieberman - with whatever six-figure "petty cash" fund he has lying around nowadays, or with help from his Rove-backed friends, or both - likely has some really slimy stuff up his sleeve.
The guy who ran google ads comparing Ned to Osama bin Laden gave Joe another $1,000 last week.
And one report has surfaced of a mailer to Republicans attacking Daily Kos.
Joe is the worst kind of Republican, and he will use the worst kind of right-wing smears in the coming days in order to hold on to and fire up his far-right base.
(FYI, he also has until 12 noon tomorrow to re-accept the invitation to the debate he had originally agreed to attend but then backed out of.)

Add to myYahoo!Back in June, 2005, the GTL was there, pounding upon President Bush for his conspiracy involving the coverrup of scientific documents and studies warning the President and the People under his so-called “care” about the horrific danger we were in from global warming, and the “human” effect upon it. An excerpt to remind [...]

Add to myYahoo!Yeah, I know it's more than a bit silly to complain about the stresses of running this blog. It's a privilege to be compensated decently for the equivalent of ranting away on the street corner, and I certainly appreciate the support I've received from Chevron, The Bestest Oil Company Evah, and MSNBC, The Bestest Cable News Network Evah, but when the silly season arrives, as it has, it's a struggle to keep paying attention to all the nonsense. What I'd love to do is go take a nap for the next 6 days.
I suppose we should remember that all the stupid news that's going to come out over the next few days really doesn't matter. I'd like to be able to ignore it, but this blog has always been about seeing how politics is portrayed by the media. Maybe I'll ignore it all and go all wonky until the election.
Who's up for a brief Econ 101 course?

Add to myYahoo!Earlier, between court appearances, I whipped out a post on the John Kerry thing where I offered three points on how to handle the controversy: (1) stop talking about Kerry’s flub; (2) don’t equivocate and stab Kerry in the back (unless[...]

Add to myYahoo! Not so funny anymore when the Republicans are the ones blaming our troops in Iraq for Bush and Rumsfeld's fiasco.
Here is what Boehner's staff told Hotline:
Kevin Madden, Boehner's spokesman, sent this response: ?Democrats are quickly squandering any and all credibility by even attempting to equate Mr. Boehner?s comments with criticism of anyone in the military. It?s an obvious and weak attempt to deflect criticism from Senator Kerry?s awful remarks delivered earlier this week, remarks Mr. Boehner was highly critical of. Mr. Boehner commends our military and our generals for doing a heroic job each and every day in their fight against terrorists in Iraq and around the globe. He thanks them every day for their bravery and will continue to do so.?Now here is what Boehner actually said:
House Majority Leader John Boehner: Wolf, I understand that, but let's not blame what's happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld. Then watch Boehner here, and tell me how Boehner is going to claim that he didn't blame the generals on the ground for Rumsfeld's mess. He said it directly. Now who's haggling over the definition of "is"?
Wolf Blitzer: But he's in charge of the military.
House Majority Leader John Boehner: But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge and he works closely with them and the president. [CNN, 11/1/06]

First lady: World listening to Iraq talkHILLIARD, Ohio --First lady Laura Bush cautioned Wednesday that Americans discussing the war in Iraq -- especially politicians -- should be careful what they say because other countries are paying attention....
"Responsible candidates understand that the men and women of our military are risking their lives for us, and that we must conduct our debate here at home in a way that does not jeopardize our troops in harm's way," she said, calling for "conversations conducted with civility and respect."
Enough already with the form over substance. Like this country's politicians and citizens critical of the war need a "cautioning" over language from the wife of the man who's condoned torture and who lied his way into a war of choice responsible for (at minimum) tens of thousands of deaths.
Millions of us are feeling quite ... well ... uncivil these days, Mrs. Bush, about the horror your husband has visited upon the world. Perhaps your attention would be better directed at the person whose actions are responsible for putting our troops in harm's way, and drop the vapors over words. Huh? Just maybe?
And by the way, I plan on taking a heap of disrespect with me to the ballot box next Tuesday. Just sayin'.
