Voters in Georgetown need to know about the Republican plan to hold middle-class tax breaks hostage before next week's tax vote in the House. Can you write a letter to your local paper so they know where Rep. Scott stands?

| Write Your Letter |
What if I told you that right now, it's a really good thing that you live in Republican Representative Tim Scott's district?Last week the Senate voted to keep tax cuts for those making under $250,000 a year.
1 Now the House is getting ready to vote on an extension of the Bush-era tax cuts, but Republicans like Rep. Scott are refusing to pass a middle-class tax break unless the wealthy get a payoff.
2The Republican plan is incredibly unpopular with the public, but not that many voters even know this vote is happening now. And the more people know about it, the more Republicans will pay the price at the polls. That's why we need to make sure every voter in Georgetown knows that Republicans are holding middle-class tax breaks hostage in order to get an extra payoff for millionaires. One of the best ways to get the word out beyond the progressive base is to get letters in local newspapers. Can you write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to help get the word out that Rep. Scott is holding the middle class hostage to give a handout to the wealthy? The House will vote on this early next week, and because it can take a few days for a letter to the editor to be published, we need to act quickly. Can you write a quick letter?
Yes, I'll help get the word out to my community.Letters to the editor are one of the most-read sections of every newspaper, and our simple tool makes sure that it only takes a few minutes of your time to make a big difference. You'll get simple talking points for your letter and it will be automatically sent to the newspaper you choose?all you need to do is write it in a few of your own words. A majority of Americans?Democrat and Republican?think the wealthy should pay more in taxes, not less.
3And 74% of the public does not want to see an extra extension of Bush tax cuts for the wealthy.
4 That's why making sure that the public knows about this vote can make a difference in public opinion about Republicans like Rep. Scott.Last week, MoveOn members made thousands of calls to senators, and when the Senate voted, it passed tax cuts for the middle class, without the additional handout to the wealthy. Now we have a chance to take that energy to the House, and make sure that whether we win or lose on the vote, voters know the truth. Can you help make sure people in your area know that Republicans like Rep. Scott are holding the middle class hostage so that they can give the wealthy a handout?
