As I told you last week, Gov. Haley has vetoed $10 million of funding for teacher salaries.
Let's make sure the legislature overrides her next week (they're coming back early).
How are we doing that? Lots of ways.
Please call your legislators sometime before noon on Tuesday, July 17th.
You guys are probably on a first name basis by now, anyway.
I am very aware of how hard you?ve been working the phones. I hear about it from legislators and lobbyists and we see the results. This really is the last of it.
Here are the links to get House and Senate contact info. Click on their names. If you've forgotten who your legislators are, use the tab on the left side to find out.
Calls have the biggest impact, but you can also email "All Senators" and "All Reps".
If you call the House on Friday or Monday and get a live person, it?s an answering service. If you ask nicely, they?ll give your message to every Rep with one call. (Thanks for the tip, Duane!)
Tell them to override the teacher salary veto.
Now that we?ve eaten our veggies, how about some goodies?
Let?s face it, Charleston?some of those board meetings were tough slogging. I want to make it up to you.
If you?re in town on
Monday, July 16th, come to the
auditorium of the Main Library at 68 Calhoun St. There?s validated parking below the building and a garage behind the District Office.
We?re having a rally and press conference to protest this veto and let our legislators know that we expect an override. The event starts promptly at 12:30. I?ve invited every Charleston area legislator to come show their support, and every media outlet to come tell the story.
I?ll be speaking freely about what we?ve had to overcome, what we've accomplished, and what we expect to see now.
I?ll also have an announcement about the future that I?m very excited to share.
This will be tremendously fun, unless your name is Nikki Haley. Bring the kids and hit the library afterwards.
Working? No problem?it?s during lunch hour. This event will be over by 1 pm.
I really do need your support. In fact, if you know you?ll be there, a quick RSVP will give me a better chance of getting to sleep this weekend. Hope you can make it!
What if you?re not in Charleston? How can you help? Call your local media outlets and tell them to get the story from their Charleston affiliates.
Then they can cover the rally. Think of the favor you?ll be doing them.
Seriously, we get calls after every event from outlets that wish they had come. Help them out. Tell them it?s going to be huge.
Because Restore Teacher Salaries knows how to throw a party!
Thanks to all of you, we have a lot to celebrate together. Let?s finish the job!
Best regards,
Patrick Hayes
Director
Restore Teacher Salaries
P.S.
Thanks to everyone who?s written the last few weeks. Your support means so much to me. I like to respond, but I?ve fallen behind.
